Deep rim wheelset suggestions for single speed build
Looking for a deep rim wheel set, but having trouble finding stock on anything other than the Velocity Deep V.
I'd be looking to run 23mm Gatorskins
Cheers

When it comes to wheels I always check out what Velomine.com has on hand. They have one set of these in stock. $269.00 is a good deal IMHO. Of course the finish may not be what you are looking for. I like the lack of garish decals.

Definitely go H+ over DT for single speed if you decide between these 2... The DTs don't look like they'd take brakes very well.. the H+ has machined brake tracks

I had to double check the date of this thread skinny tires and deep rims. I would do Velocity rims, they are of good quality, made in the US and well known. Though I would run wider tires it is 2022 wider tires are way better in so many ways.

Ride wider tires because you want to, not because of what year it is.

If or when I build another 700C wheelset, I've been wanting to try the Pacenti Forza or Velocity Quill.

I'm thinking about ThickSlicks for mine. I keep getting flats with these CST Super HP's. No more tires where the road portion is the same thickness as the sidewall.

At any rate I will second a vote for deep V's and 28c tires for road use. Not sure what is all the rage for street/urban FG riding anymore, but those DT Swiss wheels that REDMASTA posted are pretty hot. Prob higher price point though than the Deep V????

FWIW, I have light bicycle ar56 rims laced up to philwood track hubs. I run gp5k 25c str tubeless. The reason 25c is I want a$$ kicking snappyness and acceleration. I have been very pleased with my setup.

I think veganbikes meant that as "sign of the times" type statement, not a qualifying one. It's sort of a cliché thing to say when someone agrees with an overall trend in society. Another example could be "call someone by their preferred pronouns, it is 2022 after all"

What we both mean, is they've both fell out of favor socially, for the fad chasers(despite wider tires being a bit more rational for urban riding, esp with ragedy roads), people who ride what they like, ride what they like, and I still like "heavy" deep v's, and with hi flange hubs; [i]chefs kiss[\i]. Those DT's are pretty bad ass.

Bike Island (Bikes Direct's outlet website) usually has a bunch of inexpensive single-speed/track wheelsets.

Thanks everyone for the rec's and tips. I think I've managed to get a pair of SL42's, to be confirmed.
Getting used to the thicker/wider tires over here. My 1" narrow's back in New Zealand wouldn't last a weekend blast in London!

Make sure to come back and tell us how it went! All to often folks come here, as a question, and then we never hear boo from them again. Your experience and whether you are satisfied helps all of us learn.

Went for the H+ Sons, the machined walls grip well. Grabbed some nice dura-ace calipers, but had to file down the changers by 1.5mm to avoid the tires. Also drilled out the frame to receive the 8mm recessed nuts

Yea, I'm now wishing I went wider. Don't know why I chose 23mm, sketchy af on the wet London roads over all the autumn leaves

Just finished the build on the weekend, the rims feel great. The build is 4kg lighter than my Hackney Cycles daily, and a tad smaller. Feels so much more nimble and responsive.
