Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I watched the movie and thought it was remarkably boring, but I don't begrudge people making a living. I would happily cash in on people with more money than sense if I had a lifestyle product to sell. Anyone interested in a mag wheel with a "barba" sticker on it?

Im downloading it now. Never saw the whole thing.
Just the swerving and riding like jackasses in the clips made me think buying it was stupid.
I guess i can see the whole thing now at least.

you've probably seen most of what was worth seeing...

jussik posted a link on his blog to a youtube clip of an out-take which somehow had more charm than the movie itself; again it might've been the song playing in the background.

Actually, I think it's important to consider what is gained and lost by mainstreaming and advertising, and whether it can make an activity or an idea less real in a meaningful sense. Maybe it's just because I took a lot of cultural studies classes in college.

Anyway, I can ride like a jackass on any kind of bike I want.

I want video... show us video of you riding like a jackass on a recumbent (and one "trick" must be riding it into a concrete wall; moving concrete wall optional for bonus points).

People, stop saying "Who cares? Just ride." It's been said verbatim about five times.

If you truly didn't care, you wouldn't comment. And this is a bloody forum, where people express opinions. It's not possible to ride here.

I agree, I have copies of both and at least watch MASH. Especially when it is rainy out and I'm looking after my kids....

I can't bring myself to watch bootleg sessions.

Well, not in Nebraska. MASH hype/coolness was never cool here, but you never know about Iowa they are way cooler than Nebraska. So the fad could be peaking there and we haven't seen it yet.

PS To the OP--
Fly-over-state people probably care about bike faddery as much as fly-to-state and fly-from-state people. Oh, and by way the innernets in the same space/time continuum as the rest of the country.

PPS to the rest of Group--
"The mummy strikes" was totally the best MASH episode.

The coolness of fixed is finally recognized. Great, but when you find a free lockring in your cereal, it's gone too far.

The people who agree with me looked to be rather intelligent INDIVIDUALS.
The people who disagree with me seem to be pole-jockeying. AKA D*CK RIDING.
And finally, the ones who keep writing my user title "who cares, just ride" are the mental midgets that are still riding around on conversions and posting things like "I can't get my chain line straight" and "what color top tube protector should I get?"

'Nuff said. G'day. Now go ride your bike and get off the computer.
