mmmmmm, because my bike is around 5 grand total (carbon wheels, seat post, dual sided power meter, integrated carbon handlebar/stem, etc.) It's actually pretty good conversation to bring up cycling with a coworker, tell them you have "some aluminum bike", let them brag about their value carbon one for a few minutes, then plan to go on a ride later. When you show up with a faaasssssttt, beautiful aluminum bike, it kind of blows their minds.

Also, seriously, for the price of that litespeed frameset, which weighs more than most of the aluminum equivalents, you can get a whole disc brake CAAD 13 with SRAM DISC FORCE ETAP AXS.

I understand perfectly that you are confused. If you studied my bike you would understand it’s much lighter and harder to produce than your engin. And it’s a lot more unique in design as well and has proven itself on the biggest stage. The engin is a beautiful boutique bike don’t get me wrong but it’s not as good as the vortex.

How expensive do you think my frame was in 2015 (sans Cerakote finish, which was my election)? Keep in mind that we are talking about custom geometry and tube sizing built by one man who also runs a LBS and who twice won best MTB at NAHBS.

And just so you know, you cannot buy one without at least one in-person fitting, "e" or no "e" at the end of the name.

Exactly. Unfortunately, no matter what level/kind of bike you give me to ride, the engine will never measure up. I will be the designated "sweeper" of the ride.

I like the aluminum suggestion. Seems OP is looking for an all weather commuter and by his own admission is neither an avid nor particularly knowledgeable cyclist. If buying new, may as well get current standards of 12mm TA and flat mount discs. Shop around and you might even find something with a proper threaded bb as well!

I have an '03 vortex that I bought new in 04, it cost an arm and a leg.It replaced a sweet ritchey logic that weighed a couple
of pounds more.
It's a sweet riding bike but has limitations.
I can break any bike and have broken aluminum mtbs in the past.
The litespeed broke under the head tube and lite speed replaced the head tube for $500 .
What you don't see in the article about racing litespeeds in the tour and classics is that every single rider complained
the bikes were a noodle.
It doesn't bother me, I weigh 135lbs , but while the lite speed was being redone at litespeed I bought a CAAD 10.
It weighed about the same but was noticeably stiffer as is any carbon bike I've ridden.
To the OP don't replace it, it's a classic, just suck it up, buy a cheap carbon with discs if you want
I'd rather do a 100 miler on the vortex than anything else and it will stand up to a lot more abuse in storage in my truck
or in a wreck than any carbon bike.
Still on the original carbon fork....................

The Madone seems an odd choice for you, though it looks very nice. For the disc version, the lowest component level appears to be Ultegra and I'm pretty sure I recall from another recent thread that you had compared and decided Ultegra and DA provided no functional benefit. Nevertheless, New Bike Day is always fun, be sure to post pics and initial impressions

+1, so I did a search. Madone wasn't mentioned in this thread until the OP chastised shelbyfv for not seeing it on the first page. Maybe he's got another thread floatin' around and he can't keep 'em straight.

This is a good point to remember. Sprint bikes are also made of carbon and they are designed to handle 1,000 plus watts.
