East Coast USA

I知 a sixty year old male who averages 2000-2500 miles in a 6-7 month cycling season. I participated in the GCC 2018 this past June and in 13 rides I tallied up 1040 miles, with about half of those between 80 - 105 mile rides. This year I知 challenging myself to do a 13 day ride, roughly 1300 miles from the Canadian border in NY to Fernandina Beach Fl. to raise money for the fight against children痴 cancer. This is planned as a solo ride with a car escort meeting me every 100 miles or so. Before I start mapping & planning this challenge with absolutely zero knowledge, I知 hoping that I could get some constructive input from my fellow cyclists who may have experience taking on similar challenges. Routes through States, supplies, food, clothing (even steer me in the direction for the info) . Thanks in advance

The East Coast Greenway https://www.greenway.org is going to help with routing once you get over to the actual East Coast -- they have a vision of being entirely bike paths some far-off day in the future, but right now it's mostly on-road routes connecting bits and pieces of bike path. I've only personally ridden a bunch of it in MA/NH/Maine, which is further north than where you're probably going to hit the coast, but I'd look at their more southern options. The various regional boards on here will generally be happy to give you tips on routing, too.

Good advice from antimonysarah. Here is our ride which includes the part from the Keys to DC. Perhaps there are some routes/ideas for you . https://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/...c_id=9883&v=Yn

Adventure Cycling Association/RWGPS

Check out routes/maps provided by the Adventure Cycling Association: https://www.adventurecycling.org

You may find quieter roads by searching Ride With GPS for each locale you are riding through: https://ridewithgps.com Local knowledge really helps!

I did a part of the greenway in august 2017. I cycled from Charleston (Marion Forest) to Savannah. It was not my best trip in the US. Part of the Greenway is along heavy traffic road with no shoulder. Campsites were full and the heat and mosquitoes were killing me. I never made it to Florida. My tent broke south of Savannah, so I gave up. I noticed I was the only biker along the route. I guess it is just too hot :-) And there is no sea along the route. I never once saw the ocean. I don't regret doing it, as it was very interesting for me visiting South Carolina, learning about Gullah culture... but it's not as rewarding with the bicycle, certainly not in august. One of the advantages is that you can take the train along the route, with your bicycle. I followed the routes of adventure cycling. You can buy the maps online.
