Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I feel a bit achey and headachey today because of yesterday’s shot. So I skipped the ride and snuggled the cat instead.

It seems like a fair trade-off.

Yes, even the crazy bike lane in the middle, but I’ve only ridden on it with groups on the weekend.

I kept thinking "Shouldn't there be a flat part about now?" but there never was. I kept going, made it to the top, and then, as if that wasn't enough suffering, did the Radio Tower climb. All I can say about it is, to paraphrase The Bard - "All's Well That Ends."

I wanted to see what my downhill speed would be at my real height of 6 feet - as opposed to the 3 feet I'd accidentally entered before doing it last week. I did the same thing as last week - spin up to 40 mph then stop pedalling and go into "Super Tuck". Last week, I hit a top speed of 67 mph, as a cannonball. This week, max speed was 55 mph. Height doping really works! 12 mph difference!
Lol thats awesome.

Plus I've raced cyclocross enough to know that I don't really like it
that's what this is, cycle cross bike. Plenty of toe overlap. It's a 56, which is smaller than I'm used to, normally a 58 frame. But it felt ok. I'm not going to be doing a lot of gravel just a bit here and there. I'm a road rider.

Yeah speaking of that. Wow that's a wake up call, riding @100%. We did London yesterday. Hard. I had a spot on the climb again where I was pushing 700 watts and literally would not go around the guy in front of me. Im riding at 250 lbs at 100%, thats hard stuff. I did finally manage to get around that guy and catch up almost to the leaders. It surprised everyone, myself included. I set 62 new achievements on that ride. The topper for me was 243 average watts for the hour. Great time, great fun

I opted for an indexed rear 600 derailleur so I was running 1x6. IIRC, I liked the indexing and didn't have a bar end shifter for it. I doubt Shimano even had one at the time., I know that I had bar ends on my ALAN and my Cinelli but didn't on this bike. This bike handled amazingly well for a last minute, thrown together, re-purposed touring bike.

I haven't seen it bad enough that the bar needed to be replaced. But, it happens.
