I'm in that mode of tire hunting for the year, right now. Currently flip-flopping between the Vittoria Corsa TLR and Michelin Power TLR. I probably still have another 1500+ miles left on my Schwalbe, though, and I'm still months aware from being able to ride skinny tires outside, so I have the luxury of sitting back and waiting for a deal, but I don't expect to do much better than $40-50 each.

I ran the smooth Gravelking 28mm until they wore out and had no complaints. Great bang for the buck IMO. I'll probably buy them again come spring.

I've also got a set of their Pari-Moto 650b x 38 that are just lovely.

And a set of the Panaracer-made Rene Herse 650b x 38 extralights that are sublime.

The set of T-Serv 32mm that came on a used bike I bought are pretty good for "commuter" tires.

I like Panaracer a lot.

Right now I'm still doing tubed, but I do want to give the tubeless a shot. I did just build that set of 55 mm carbon tubeless wheels. So eventually I plan on seeing what all the hubbub is about. I plan on running tubes as base line to compare them to conti's. I am just trying to find a more cost effective alternative to gp 5000's. Ill let you know what I think after I try them.
It also looks like maxis changed the tread pattern on the detonators. The old tread was an old fashion groove pattern that would hold debris, metal shards, glass etc. And allow it to puncture the tire. They might be worth another look.
The thing I like about the panaracers is they are still made in Japan. Hopefully it'll stay there and continue to offer a lower cost but higher quality competition to the other brands.
Most co. Have moved to Chinese manufacturing, and yet prices continue to climb. Its gets my ocd going. Even Kenda koontach's are $50. And they're horrible. Or, at least used to be.
The Chaong cobras were ok but theyve disappeared.

I can still hear the tune. I don't watch it that much now that I am back working in the office most days so I don't know if they still play it.

What I am having a hard time getting used to is Ken Jennings hosting "Jeopardy!" It's something about the tome and cadence of his voice now that he is speaking more than when he was a contestant.

I did 65 miles for the first year I lived in the mountains. Fortunately I had a carpool friend who worked in the same building. Unfortunately the 1994 earthquake damaged the freeway we used and we had to take a 1 hour detour for 5 months.

I don't get this but two of the WalMart heirs are avid mountain bikers and have donated millions to trail acquisition and maintenance in Arkansas.
One mtb magazine interviewed them a few years ago.

I've come to the conclusion that warming up, whether for a workout or an FTP test, needs to be more than just spinning. I need to push my HR up into at least the 150 range to 'wake up' the whole system before a hard effort.

For example, back before winter, I decided to try for a PR on a 5 mile stretch a local club uses as half their 10 mile time trial. Instead of doing any kind of warmup, I figured to warm up on the road, gradually building up the effort. I was going pretty well, but as I got closer to LT, my lungs/chest started feeling 'off', like I wasn't able to get in anywhere near enough air, and/or I was feeling kinda queasy. So I really let off the last 200 yards, and missed the PR. As my HR came down, I felt better, so I went on with the ride. Later in the ride, I blew past LT a couple times, feeling strong and not at all like I had earlier. I figured it was an off day.

A week or so later, I did a Ramp Test on Zwift, just spinning for a 5 minute warmup, all under 120 bpm, because I'd read somewhere that the Ramp Test is its own warmup. Pretty much exactly the same thing happened, same feeling in the chest, same slight nausea, and I ended crapping out about 60 watts lower than the previous time I'd done it. I went on with the ride, and like the time before, I pushed myself well past LT a couple times - sprints, pushing on climbs, etc - and felt fine.

Next time I did a Ramp Test, I made sure to ride a good 15 minutes with some hard efforts to drive up HR, and sure enough, I was back to the same level as the first time.

That was with a dumb trainer, using zPower. Then I got the Snap, and did the Ramp Test in Erg Mode. Blew up/hit death spiral about 60 watts lower that with zPower, which leads me to believe zPower way overestimated output! Also decided Erg Mode is a harsh mistress.
