Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Lubbock is not on the main Texas electrical grid.
Good luck and stay safe.

Don't know about the palm trees. It has not been like this in the 40 years I've been here. I do have a new ice rink.

As bad as it is, we are healthy, have a warm place to stay, have food, and are safe. We also have toilet paper and flushing toilets. Things could be a lot worse.
Yeah man. Always an upside.

Sounds like power plants and natural gas lines are freezing, along with maint. being performed at the off peak time on a nuclear plant. Windmills aren't spinning due to ice, and panels are covered up. Off peak in Texas is when the AC isn't running.

I'm sure there a large number of downed wires too, with the weight of the ice and winds.

It is almost entirely NOT a windmill problem.
This AM the Gov told local news it was because natural gas facilities froze up. Then he went on Fox News and blamed windmills.

Its no picnic up north either. Last week a friend called from PR to see if we could assist her son with a frozen pipe situation here. I said sorry sweetie, I'm suffering from my covid vaccine reaction and this is not a good day for me. They figured it out.

Texas gets about 10% of its power from wind and there are wind turbines in Greenland.

If palm trees can live through that, why can't they live here?

BTW (thus far) we've only had snow flurries and temperatures 10-15F below normal in the QuasiNorth. I guess we're "lucky."

I only asked because I have a co worker who lives there and he is claiming it’s the wind mills.

I wasn’t trying to make light of a situation.

Not to worry. I made no such assumption. There's a lot of disinformation out there.

I would say the bottom line is, the deep freeze. Nothing down there is "winterized". So, it all freezes; windmills, water pipes, even oil rigs.

We have lots of windmills here in the Actual North, and they're fine. But, they have features to cope with frigid operating temperatures.

Who said they can live thru this??? I'm sure lots of palm trees have given their lives in this event.

I'm also sure that I'll be spending a bunch on new landscaping this spring to replace dead stuff.

You should have some palms shipped in and planted in balmy, sunny Knoxville.
