For years after being done with school, every May I'd be plagued by dreaming that I was sitting in the exam for a class I didn't remember signing up for and never attended, which I needed to Ace to graduate, and which I couldn't fake because it was outside my field.

Sometimes it then morphed into the 'Naked In Class' dream, just for extra anxiety.

Ah! I'd forgotten about my tool roll and pump - those are off of the bike for the winter, too.

Like I said, I don't have a scale appropriate for my bike... but I do have a scale appropriate for that other junk. I just measured because I was curious and bored - 1lb 11.5oz for the light/cam, radar/rear, GPS, pump and tool roll.

I haven't actually had it on an accurate scale, just the bathroom scale thing. It has a cf Kestrel fork with aluminum steerer and 36 spoke Open Pros and Ultegra triple group. I can feel the weight difference between it and the Seven which I think is about 3 pounds.
It would be nice to have a 15 or 16 pound bike but I would be wondering about what was going to break.

My circa 1991 Tesch is about 24 pounds.

That's pretty good. What steel is it made of?

I have a bathroom scale weight of 23.5lbs for the SLT, that's with an 1.8kg wheelset, pedals, and bottle cages. That frame is double butted CrMo on the top tube and down tube only though, I'm pretty sure everything else is straight gauge hi-ten. I'd be surprised if that frame was under 5 lbs, the fork probably adds another 2 or so.

Yeah, that's how I weighed my bikes - step on scale, allow to come to rest. Pick up bike, allow scale to come to rest. Calculate difference.

The Battaglin, for all its weight, was built up with light components - Phil Wood BB, Chris King HS, Chorus components, American Classic seatpost, custom 28F/32R wheelset with White Industries hubs and Velocity rims. Still weighs at least 22lbs. It can't escape the 6lb frame. At the time it was built, that was only a slight weight penalty, and for that penalty you got a bike that gives up zero energy in a sprint.

The bag alone is about 2.2lbs. I'm thinking of switching back to the original fork and ditching the front-loaded rando cosplay thing. It's convenient but a bit unnecessary for someone who's not doing 300k+ rides or touring. Kind of going back to the 716's "sport touring" roots.

I bet going back to the nice and light stock fork and ditching the front bag and rack I could save a pound and a half or two. If the new saddle I bought works out that will be another pound saved. That would take things down to under 25lbs for 650b wheels, big tires, and full coverage metal fenders. I'd likely replace the big front bag with something like a Swift Bandito or Ourucase Smuggler.

My dream just before waking up this morning was not very weird. I was buying some stuff, including a small bouquet of flowers for my wife, and the cashier told me that the total was two hundred bucks and change. That was entirely too much and I got pissed when the cashier couldn't/wouldn't show me an itemized breakdown. Then I woke. Oh well.

I think most higher end crabon bikes are 16-17 pounds. Drop a pound or two for a ww build. Realize published “weights” often exclude pedals and bottle cages if they are coming from a manufacturer.

Two points of reference: my CF Roubaix weighs 17 and my Ti Habanero weighs 19. Guess which one rides better and gets 90% of my saddle time?

I just keep harking back to an article in the now-defunct "Bicycle Guide" magazine, where they stretched the limits of (then-current) technology to create a 16 lb bike that used components like Modolo's plastic downtube shfters that had a reputation for breaking off in your hand, brakes known for not stopping well, and it was so noodly it was practically unrideable by anyone over 150 lbs. And now you can get the Specialize Aethos that weighs under 14 lbs, has STIs and disk brakes, and will support people up to 275 lbs.

We've come a long way, baby.
