Yeah, the Canyon and Bianchi are both somewhere between 18 and 19 lbs. They feel like feathers compared to the Ritchey and Battaglin, though.

I'm curious to see where the Cannondale ends up. The catalog says that model weighs in at 21 lbs, but that's with a triple. It's definitely not a flyweight, though.

When I started riding 25 years ago and weighed something like 210, I absorbed the idea that I needed things wheels with 32F/36R, straight-gauge spokes and such. So it's hard to believe a sub-16 lb bike wouldn't collapse under me like it was made of toothpicks and Elmer's Glue. Of course I know intellectually it won't. Still....

I was 220# and I broke so much stuff (mostly wheels) it was ridiculous. Multiple saddle rails, seatposts, a stem, 4 frames, 3 pedals snapped off, and motorcycle suspension parts, too. Cracked the sole of one shoe and had another separate during a ride.
The part failures have slowed in the past few years, still cracked the rear wheels on the mtb and the Seven last year.

It’s my understanding that variations of that dream are relatively common. Mine is that I’m signed up for a course I’ve never attended. I haven’t even bought the text book(s). The final exam is in a couple of weeks. I have to decide whether I try to learn enough to pass or lie to the professor by telling him I didn’t realize I was signed up with the hope that he’ll let me drop it.

You seem to be the place where bike parts go to die! Pretty sure you're riding A LOT MORE than me, but also a lot harder!

I did go through 2 aluminum stems on the Battaglin, but both had reputations for cracking. Luckily it didn't happen catastrophically. One stem I DIDN'T crack turned out to have been recalled one year after I bought it, but I didn't know that till I'd ridden the Ritchey with it for about 14 years!

I read a Lennard Zinn article where he tried to answer why some riders broke more parts than others. He concluded certain riders have have such uneven power delivery that they flex things much more than normal, leading to metal fatigue. That could be a factor, but riding desert bikes taught me to lift the front wheel and let the rear slam into things. I do that and the road bike sometimes, oops.

p.s. I'm riding about 15 hours per week, sometimes a little less, road and off road combined. I would do more if I could recover better. Getting old sucks.

I have been practicing hopping over the expansion joints on a bridge on my Sunday route. Sometimes, it's perfect. Mostly, the rear wheel still hits, but not as hard as it would otherwise. I worried that somebody my size bunnyhopping might be bad for the bike, but not once have I come down with anything like the shock of just hitting the thing.

Bunnyhopping is a hit and miss thing for me. Sometimes I land smoothly and impress myself, sometimes not.

There are two on the bridge (because of course), and often I'll do it perfectly over one and bounce the back tire off the other. Rarely to I jump both just right. Last month, I hopped both joints perfectly in both directions. I felt inordinately proud of myself. Then I hit a rock 2 miles later and flatted.
