The out's side.
Just kidding. On the left side, here where we drive on the right. I can easily see cars behind me to the right by turning my head left, however, I can always see cars behind me on the left with the mirror mounted on my right.
BTW I have seen some people with one on each side, but I think that is not usually necessary. There are a couple of places on my commute where the right turn lane and the bike lane criss-cross as they approach an intersection. THat would be one place I'd like two mirrors, although I can still easily see behiond me on both sides, just not both at once.

Thanks for info, I guess I followed the crowd on this one. I feel naked without my mirror. I might start wearing one while walking as the wife and I were mowed down in the ped crosswalk (with walk signal). Concussions are not fun!

I something find myself looking to the upper left by habit when walking. Of course, all I see is sky

Wear mine on the left side of helmet. Give me a good view of what is coming towards me when traveling on the right side of the road. ( in USA).
I have a mirrcycle helmet mirror. I think that is how it is spelled. Sticks with a velcro patch on the inside of the helmet. Get some distortion when the road is rough, but does a good enough job to still see if anything is coming. Bought it from Amazon if I remember correctly.

The magic is practice. You have to give it time. Maybe even take a break and go back to it. It's worth the effort. So are helmet mounted headlights but that is another thread. I use the ultra-huge mirror from EVT but others have success with smaller ones. Good luck.

This is the one I use: https://www.amazon.com/Bicycle-Adjus...-1-spons&psc=1
For some reason they have it pointing upward in the picture, but I have mine hanging down. It's not super huge, so it doesn't block your forward vision, but I did shorten the arm so that it's just a little bit closer to my eye and I can have a wider field of view. Plus shortening it cut down on vibration so the image is now a bit clearer.
