FANY Day 1 Done
(Not sure what happened but photos are in another post????)
Day 1 is done. It was 70 miles with 4300’ of climbing from Plattsburgh to Westport. The hills were steep!!! It’s about 45 miles from Plattsburgh if you followed a direct route. In order to get the added mileage the director took over a lot of loops on secondary roads. The State Roads are your typical 4-8% grades. However the secondary roads have lots of steep pitches.
I’ve ridden steep roads before but not climb after climb after climb. I saw a lot of 15-19% hills. They weren’t terribly long climbs but even a 1/4 mile 15% hill can hurt!
I met my wife a couple of times along the way. We stopped for lunch at about 50 miles and then I did the additional 20 miles on to Westport. It got pretty warm but the humidity wasn’t as bad as back home so it wasn’t as bad as it could have been. A lot of the secondary roads were in a tree canopy so the shade was nice.
Tomorrow should be pretty similar to today with another 70 miles to Fair Haven, VT with a touch more climbing. We also take a ferry across the lake.

There is a sub forum called "Blogger's Forum." Seems a good place to corral all this in one easy to follow thread.
