Elby/BionX Battery

I have an Elby ebike which has a Bionx battery and controls. What I am interested in doing is using my Garmin Nuvi 68 (auto navigator) with my Elby and plug it in to the USB port so it charges. When the Garmin is plugged into the USB port it doesn't charge for the Garmin works on a 12v system but the Elby has a 48v battery.

How would I convert my 48v battery to 12v so that it will charge my Garmin?

Ray

There are voltage converters to reduce battery voltage from high to low. Just look around.

A USB port should be putting out 5 VDC no matter whether its input is 12 VDC, 48 VDC, or 110 VAC - and the 5 VDC is what should charge the Garmin. Does the USB port on your bike power anything else properly?

Thanks for your reply. I am not sure what you mean. When I plug in my samsung phone to the usb port it charges. The 48 v battery powers a headlight and my ebike controls. Nothing else is plugged into the usb port.

Thanks for your reply. I will look around for a voltage converter and research that.

You do NOT need a voltage converter. The USB port does NOT output full pack voltage. ALL repeat ALL functional USB ports put out 5V, as you have already been told. Verify port again, also the cable itself. I had a bad charger cable for my phone recently, this could be it. Try plugging the Garmin into a computer to charge, also verify that the battery will still charge your phone, it may have gone bad since you last tried this.
