Weight loss - I did it!

People need serious motivation. Looking at myself in the mirror done it for me. That, and finding out I was categorized as "obese"!!

What might help is weighing yourself as part of your morning shower regimen and using Excel to chart your progress. It will take a week or so to see progress so don't be discouraged.

Cutting out beer and seriously looking at meal serving sizes got me to the 170's from almost 200 lb. I'm never going back.

I found an exercise bike helps a lot - just put it on easy cycling (no need to kill yourself) and just prop up your ipad or laptop and read or surf the net. It was hard at first but then I could almost feel my legs saying "Yes! This is what I was designed for! Moving!"

Good luck. Onward and upward!

Congrats! The formula is pretty simple: create a sustainable calorie deficit and stick to it reliably. The work involved is considerable.

Today I weighed in at 175, down from 212 in nine months. I'm 6'3". So I went from the overweight category to the middle of the normal range. My calorie deficit came by riding enough every week to not have to care too much about what I eat. But at the same time knowing that doughnut is making hills more painful was good motivation to moderate my consumption too. Eventually my habit became go ride when boredom grazing starts becoming a temptation. After the ride go ahead and eat something sensible. Now that the weather has cooled off I hit the gym to continue my calorie burn. It seems to be working out: December has been a 4 pound loss month, which is about typical.

Keep up your hard work. Getting healthy can be fun.

Congratulations! I started a serious weight loss program on 1/15/18, and as of today, I’m down 100 lbs. Its a program called the HMR diet run through my local hospital. Around 1400 calories a day, and I’m riding about 150 miles a week. You can’t out ride your fork, so it’s really 80% diet and 20% exercise. I never thought I’d drop that 100 pounds, about 25 more to go until I hit goal and go to maintenance.

I started my weight loss journey end of July early August 2018, for one reason - I could not donate blood at a work blood drive due to high blood pressure. The Red Cross indicated it was extremely high and was going to send me to the ER. Well later that week, i followed up with my Dr. and they put on on blood pressure meds and told me I would be on them forever!!! that was depressing but made me reevaluate some life choices. I reduced the Beer (that was hard to less than 4 a week) reduced the soda (3-4 times per day to 1-2 times a week, this was also hard) but i did pick up a coffee habit bit it is only 1-2 cups in the AM, working on reducing that as well. The food choices have not changed, just working on portion control.

The biggest thing is that i started riding my bike again. Used to do it all the time when the kids were young but now that they are late teenagers and adults, i fell off. got a new fitness bike and enjoyed it so much, i bought an endurance bike for longer rides.

The long and short of it is went from 250 lbs to 223 lbs and still going. i thought i would gain it back over the holidays, but I have not so far. I look forward riding the trainer now and cant wait to get this bike on the road to see what i can do.
