Pair of mutts - Miyata 110 and Schwinn World Sport

Went to look at the Miyata this morning and ended up with 2 bikes. First is a Miyata 110, 1984. The bike seems to have had very little use. Some minor rust spots mostly on the seat tube and chain stays. Everything works, seat and stem are free.

Second is a 1987 Schwinn World Sport. Again, almost no use. A couple of tiny scratches and rust spots. Other than that, in excellent shape. Everything works here too, with free seatpost and stem.

Both bikes were $110, total. Not the deal of the century, but good enough.

You did pretty good on those two bikes at that price. Two very basic dependable 6 speed bikes from the 80's. Both those bikes would make excellent upright handlebar city bikes. With upright handlebars, racks &, fenders those would be fantastic grocery getters.

Now that I'm looking at them closer, I don't think either one was ridden more than a mile or two. The little nubs are still on the original tires. The weigh in at about 26 pounds and seem solid. And both are my size!

I'm thinking either is worth $125 if I clean them up properly. I'll have to look at my current collection and see if one should be a keeper.

Hard to find any decent road bikes for $100 around here.

In “the good old days” a clean ready to
ride World Sport from that era (cromoly main tubes), would bring $175. No more. I think your $125 estimate is about right. Of course it depends on your location. Super strong market would be higher.

Look at your local Craigslist and see what others are asking for similar bikes. Realize silly sellers can ask ridiculous prices. I’ve seen the same bike on Charlotte C/L for over FIVE years. Hope springs eternal.

Decided to keep the Schwinn and flip the Miyata. I'll hope to get around $150 for it once its cleaned up and serviced. Thanks for the info, folks!
