I can't tell for sure from the pic but that might be self fusing silicone rubber tape. Pretty useful stuff. I've got a roll somewhere. I've used it for wrapping QR levers, chainstay protection, and once or twice as finishing tape.

It could be regular grip tape.^^^ Also useful stuff to have around. Completely different than the self fusing rubber tape. That's probably more likely.

if you want to find something at The Home Depot. use your computer to find the closest store near you & set that as "your store". or use their app on your smartphone. when you search their site for a product, the screen will show you whether or not it is in that store, & if so, the aisle # & bay#. it will also tell you how many they have in stock. if it's a small #, good luck! many things are sold by the company but are not carried in the store near you. many other items are never carried in any of their stores

I bought a roll of self fusing tape about a year ago, not sure where. still haven't used it for anything. still sitting on a shelf in my basement

The stuff I use from HD to finish up handlebar tape wrapped bottom to top is "stretch and seal self-fusing silicone tape"

The Grip tape from Canada is something different, (supposedly more like a Saran Wrap).

There was a recent thread on this very product titled "Another option for Cloth Tape Lovers", but the links that come up in a Google search won't work for some reason.

Self fusing tapes vary.
I've used a rubber variety for many years, found it useful, but not perfect....
- Prolonged contact with my hands (landscape tool handles) causes it to break down, & peel.
- Over years, the more it was stretched, the more it cracked.
- It feels stickier (not in a good way) in warmer weather.

One used to be able to buy cloth electrical tape.

I think it would work as rim tape, but wasn't very good for bar tape. Sticky?

I think it works great as tape over cotton bar wrap. No more Shellac no more dirty tape. Here in Canada it's available at Home Hardware.
I'm sure it's available in the US under a different name.

I closed the thread because it started to get a little "Silly".

are you sure you are thinking about fabric electrical tape......IME it is sticky on the outside after wrapping around something and would get dirty/fray pretty easy....at least the stuff I am thinking about and have used.....

Rescue Tape is how the self-fusing stuff is known on some old vehicle forums and you might find it branded that way at Walmart, Lowe's, Amazon, etc.

I've searched high and low for a similar tape that might be available in the States. There are a few types that might be close but no way of telling without a physical inspection. The "Grip Tape" that is available in Canada is stretchable non adhesive similar to saran wrap or stretch wrap only thicker, the only thing it sticks to is itself.

If anyone really wants to try I don't mind being a facilitator. I can buy a batch and ship it.
But with shipping, cost will be roughly $20 US a roll. Mind you a roll is 50 ft so would be good for 4-5 or more sets of bars (depending on how you wrap). I have not tried this on any other bar tape only cloth.
Let me know via PM if there is any interest.
