I went for it, and it worked out. Bought an entry level SS from Bike Nashbar (customer service there is NOT COOL, btw). 48x16 gearing pulling a Trek Transit Deluxe with a 3 year old. About a 12 mile commute one way. Took about an hour and wasn't as much of a workout as I anticipated. Unfortunately, I enjoyed it more than the kid. Asked her after the ride if she liked it... "Yah, but can we take the van from now on?" ^_^

I suggest you and your daughter visit the LBS and try on a bunch. We've gone through a couple. First was a Bell that was about $20. When she out-grew it, I got a Trek helmet that was a little more expensive. But she had to have that one because the pink and purple design matches her bike....

I also concur on the above advise. Go see what fits and make it a fun thing to pick out. Making helmets cool is much tougher when they get older.

Has anybody carted their spawn on a fixed gear bike in one of these?
Don't let the Division of Youth and Family Services know about it, but I'm going to be attempting this soon. (of course, I'll do a bunch of trial runs before I actually put to the test with the grom aboard).

Thanks for dragging this up. I love seeing that picture of my daughter. Iberts are great and so are the werides. My daughter is now beyond the weight for the weride so we have a trailer which suck can't we can really talk on our rides anymore. Can't wait for next spring when my 3 month old will be big enough to use the weride.

I know a guy who use to pull his infant in a trailer on a brakeless fixed gear bike. He gets tons of street cred for that in my book

I pulled a trailer on my fixie when I did recycling and there weren't any issues. Though the value of goods I was hauling was (depending on circumstances) less than a child. Unless you hate your kid.

I use my fixed gear with a Thule Cadence trailer and a 28lb kid.. no problems here, yet.. but it's all on flat ground we definitely don't chance it with any hills at the lake for example..
