Training for 1st Century
Hi All,
Does anyone have a link for a training guide to prepare for a century? Having now completed the Metric, I'd like to prepare myself for the Cruising the Conejo Century. It's local to my area but fairly intense; I believe it has about 6000' of climbing. I'm definately not going to get away with just doing my regular rides to handle this one.
So, I'm looking for a structured program, something with a week-to-week guide. The Century will be held in May.

with that sort of climbing, make sure you have enough gears, and throw some substantial climbs in your longer training rides. i would make sure the climbs came towards the end of the rides, just to make sure i could handle it and everything; just an idea. good luck

Hi,
back when I was a hiker I had the world's simplest training program. I started early in the spring with a hill that had 400 ft of vertical gain. Every weekend I added 200 to 400 feet of gain by hiking a slightly taller hill or mountain. Start small and add difficulty regularly. Do one hard ride with the altitude gain a week, and couple rides during the week at an easy to moderate pace.
Your body can't always progress, when the going gets tough, do a week that has lots of miles but not lots of hills.

I got a short 13 mile ride off today during lunch. Now I'll start planning the schedule for the next few months.
