Here's the link to my frame builder, Jack Trumbull, owner of Franklin Framesets. He's been building since 1976 and according to him replacing the BB shell (if need be, isn't a big deal and he has one). He's also removing the top tube rear brake cable guides and adding two brake cable stops on the left side of top tube, one in front, one in the rear.

I got an email from Jack at Franklin Frame last night, he said my Guerciotti frame would be ready for pick up mid next week. He sent me a pic last night of my requested color (I don't want to see the whole thing until I'm there). This is going to be one nice bike and a great rescue

That chainstay indentation is odd
as noted wrong place and if a chain jam weird as no scratches.
maybe was spot repainted.
BB crack from this side looks worse than the other images to me.
Something is amiss, my intuition thinks it is a cracked shell from the surface inward.

Anticipation is building on this project!
Any news on how the bb shell situation turned out, i.e. was it replaced?

Well there's a teaser!!! Looking forward to seeing this frame fixed and restored. I never rode a Guerciotti, but they were very popular with members of my bike club BITD and so they have sentimental value for me.

That's the only pic he sent, I can't wait to see it. The BB was indeed cracked so it was replaced along with the right side chainstay. I'm of the opinion that dent in the chainstay came from chain jamming on the underside and the rider forcefully back pedaled to get it unstuck which caused the dent.
I will tell you this, having an old frame with damage partially re-built, aligned, chromed and re-painted isn't for the faint of heart $. I knew that going in and I'm happy it didn't end up on a trash heap somewhere. More to come; I pick it up Wednesday.

There are three Jack Trumbull painted bikes remaining in the collection: a Merckx Corsa Extra (respray, rechromed triangle, head lugs, fork), a Davidson custom done for a previous owner, and a Bianchi Mondiale redone in House of Kolor Hot Pink Pearl (which turned out more purple than pink, but still stunning). His work is outstanding but, as you indicated preciously, not inexpensive.
I'm certain you will be more than pleased with the result.

Fabulous. Did he re-chrome, or save the original?

So, curious now, what was the story behind the shell? I don't see any shots showing that spot. Was the shell actually cracked?
Looks like the typical hold in the underside of the chainstay bridge got painted over. Not sure it matters, just happened to see it.
EDIT: Frame is gorgeous!

Well that looks great. Congratulations on an excellent save. The new color is a big improvement to my eyes at least.

Yes, the BB was cracked between the downtube and the seat tube. Jack says it happened from incomplete braze penetration at the downtube and BB lug. That allowed the BB to move and it eventually cracked. He had a time finding an Italian thread BB with the right size chainstay holes, apparently chainstays are larger diameter now.
He also replaced the right chainstay, removed the rear brake cable guides on the TT and installed cable stops. He set the rear to 130mm, chromed the chainstays, rear dropouts, fork crown & dropouts. Once all that was done, he aligned, prepped, painted, decaled and clear coated it.
I probably won't get on building it up until after Christmas but it'll go quick after that. Should I leave the painted over weep hole as is or try and open it up?

That is a result worthy of Major Applause. A Much better visual personality. Great work on the bottom bracket shell too. Aside from the lighter wallet, you must be pleased.
What was the total elapsed time for this, quite a few steps, metalwork, chrome, primer, paint, graphics, clear.
like, 4 months? if so, impressive.

Amazing result, you must be stoked!
This was the only bit I was scratching my head over, any reason the guides were removed? Not taking away what is a wonderful frame refurbishment, just curious, that's all.

I only know of one Guerciotti that approaches that one, and it sure isn't mine.
Great vision, great work, great save. Can't wait to ride with both of them.
I'll be the guy in the beater bike.
