New Foundland, Canada - the next great touring destination
If any of you are thinking of where you're going to tour next, I just finished E. Canada and would highly recommend New Foundland. Safe drivers, great roads, good scenery, hills (in case you feel the need for leg muscles), etc. Feel free to contact me if you have questions.

What do you think of Nova Scotia? Hopefully we will be going there next summer, a little easier pedaling with more b&b's than Newfoundland?

We are both from the Maritimes, Andrew is from New Brunswick and I'm from Nova Scotia. It's really nice to see more people "discovering" this part of the world as we think it's great for cycling too. The only thing I would say about Newfoundland is that some of the distances can be huge on a bike. We have driven for hours in a car and hardly seen a thing (no shops, only miniscule villages). How did you manage in terms of picking up groceries? Newfoundland would be a great place for wild camping, that's for sure. And the locals are very friendly.
If anyone has questions on routes or places to see in the Atlantic provinces, we are always happy to field questions.

I've pedaled in several areas of Eastern Canada, and I think it's a great place. Quebec (Hull-Gatineau, eastern townships, Laurentians, Gaspe) and PEI are the places I've ridden. Are there ferryboats from "mainland" New Brunswick to NF?

There are no boats from NB to Newfoundland. You have to go via NS (Sydney).

Newfoundland. Having toured Canada from coast to coast, NFLD is the one place I really have to return to and tour again. The people alone make me want to go back - on whole, they are the friendliest people I've ever met. What a great province. I was proud to end my tour there and I couldn't have picked a better place.
Newfoundland, Canada - the next great touring destination... I agree.

Actually, that picture is a crop of a frame from Rejected. As I recall, Rejected is a story which did not end particularly well either.

We just got back from two months touring in the Maritimes, Nova Scotia was great, lots to see and do the riding is some of the best I have ever had, the roads are many and lots of options exist. We just meandered around the province and had a great time. We spent a couple of weeks in Newfoundland it’s a great place to tour but services were rather dispersed, tons to see and lots of great scenery. The people were all great in both provinces. We spent less than a week in both PEI and New Brunswick from the limited time we spent there both seems great, but our family thought Nova Scotia was the best.

Hate to tell you this team, but NB, NS and PEI bored me bad! I'm glad I found something interesting in NF, otherwise I might have killed myself.

No Erick. I never saw a moose. Not in Quebec, not in NB, not in NS, not in PEI, not in NF. Not in Alaska, not in Scandanavia. And that's because the 'moose' doesn't exist. I've figured out the scam you northern countries have been putting over the rest of us - create a mythical animal which doesn't exist to bring more tourists and increase the tourism trade. I'm onto to you!

real mythical moose are always loose in northern VT.
by the way NF was a great place to visit.
Agree with other posters above; longer bicycle
distance between some places, on occassion supplies
were harder to find, nice people, the provincial camp grounds
usually pretty good, as was stealth camping, often a breeze.
Hope to go again.

Sounds great! The closest I've gotten to there was the Gaspe peninsula in Quebec, which was magical. In the national park at the northern tip I was awakened several times during the night by noisy spouting whales. Damn whales! Eastern Canada and the Maritimes is a great corner of North America and I hope I get a chance soon to follow in your path.

Just keep in mind it's pretty much wilderness touring, because other than the little city of St John's, that's pretty much what you get. Wilderness and very long distances between anything.
BTW, NF is part of what is generally referred to as Atlantic Canada, but it's not in "The Maritimes".
