Just found an early 1960s Peugeot PX10
Cheers,
It has been a while since I have been on Bike Forums, but I thought you all might be interested in my latest acquistion, an early 1960s PX10 (1961 or 62, I guess). I purchased the pug through Craigslist this past weekend from a nice non-bike gentleman in West Mifflin, PA. Well-used with lots of scratches and nicks, and a nice dent on the downtube (thinking about frame blocks to reduce its size), but otherwise... Enjoy.

I have a peugeot bought new in 69. For a few years it was my only ride. The odometer has been around twice, over 20000 miles. All that has been replaced are tires. enjoy.

Yes, Duralumin dated 1959. I am going to try and recover the Ideale 59 TB saddle cover, but I think it is beyond hope.

If you want a Pro to do the job, Tony Colegrave in the UK is the total master...but he's not cheap. You might have better luck scouring eBay, and from my limited experience I'd prefer a steel-railed Ideale over alloy rails. Great find, if you want a couple Mafac cable straddle-wire-hangers to replace those bent sheet-metal tabs, PM me.

The chrome is in very good shape. The bike is very well-used, but I doubt it was ever exposed to the elements for an extended period of time. The add was in the Pittsburgh Craigslist with very little information. Just Peugeot, 1970 to 1972?, Reynolds 531, Dirty, Calls only, and he did not post photos. I left a message on a Saturday, the day the ad was placed, and the gentleman returned my call on Sunday afternoon. He is a collector of automobile memorabilia, and picked the bike up at a garage sale. He new absolutely nothing about bikes, but that this was old and might be worth something. I interviewed him over the telephone, and the answer to every question I asked surprised me. As soon as I realized what he had, I immediately jumped in the car and took a drive (~1.5 hours). He was asking $200, and we settled on $160. He was thrilled that the bike was so old, and glad to put it in the hands of a collector. I will post more photos.

The beat-up saddle on the bike is an Ideale 59TB model, so I just purchased an Ideale 59TB saddle cover in excellent shape from a chap in France. Not cheap, but I figure once the saddle is mounted (probably with Brooks rivets unless I can find Ideale rivets) on the Duralumin frame I will not lose money on the investment. I believe these are pretty rare.

May I humbly suggest, knowing nothing about your dent, that you try riding the bike for a few hundred miles before you do anything about it. Get the wheels perfectly true, check the dish of the rear wheel, get new tires on it, and ride ride ride. If the frame is tweaked, you'll know as soon as you take your hands off the bar. If you can ride comfortably with your hands off the bar, your frame is fine, and that dent is just part of the history of the bike. Leave it.
That's my advice, anyway!
