Junior (Brandon) laps P123 field
I thought he might need his own thread.
LUX rider, Junior National TT champ, Brandon just gets stronger. Best American at Valley of the Sun P1, two weeks later laps P123 field at CBR. Racing age 18.
He did a 484W 33.9mph lap on his Tarmac.

Looks like last lap solo when it was time to drop the pro.
No question he is special, but I think the P1s still need to learn who he is and may have given him some chances they may not in the future.
Although he is stronger this year than last I expect riding away in Europe will be more difficult as I'm sure his name is on a lot of white boards - this year.

that is some seriously wtf speed/power. I mean, lots of guys can do that power for a minute but to get that pace out of it is insane if he was solo. It would be hard to believe except I was personally abused by him at San Dimas last year and he wins everything he's entered in.
when he's in the TdF in a year or two I'm going to really enjoy telling the story of how I guttered him into a shrub at the San Dimas crit last year so he couldn't solo-counter the break I was in to win all three races.

I remember one time Brandon was really hurting us on the front of a group ride and instead of making a left turn, he went straight at a light and we all looked at each other like should we say anything? Finally someone yelled so he could hear and turn around, he passed us again like we were pedaling backwards. It's great that he is having so much success!

I got to ride against Craddock and Haga in Tejas. This confirmed my conviction that I despise natural talent.
Or more like unnatural talent.
Or more like unnatural talent.

As reported at dinner that was the final 5 laps after the bumping rider (UCI pro Hilton Clarke) wanted to keep Daniel out of their train before the final sprint. He thought it was fine and no big deal.

What is acceptable I've seen vary by level and location. He says as long as everyone has hands on the bar and the head isn't used body checks are done all the time. The teammate I originally though it was, is known for responding (which surprised me there was no response) and gets busted by dad when the Facebook pictures show up.
As a pro in a mixed field (P123) I think that was an unwise move because a rider not used to that might take it as aggression and respond in a truly unsporting/unprofessional way.
When racing with Brandon the kids often play a, safe, disruptive role. Daniel said the bump was valid because he was trying to interrupt their train. Obviously they knew that and as this was the end of the race I'mm sure there is some history. I do not hear the kids were jerks, or dangerous, or lacked class so to me it is part of the chess match.

It's their job to do it, and your job to ignore it and/or fight back in that situation. At least that's my take.

It's pretty standard stuff - if you're hovering around a leadout train, and the train knows what they're doing, you should be ready for some kind of move to get you to go away.
It's their job to do it, and your job to ignore it and/or fight back in that situation. At least that's my take.

To me that was just a firm signal. I wouldn't do it, but basically nothing happened, meaning he didn't gutter the LUX rider or anything.
Leaning hard on someone's side/back for 5-8 seconds, hard slaps on helmet, jerks on hand/wrist holding bar, pulls on elbow, head into shoulder (for more than just regaining balance), prolonged push on forearm/tricep (few seconds), hard swerve of a few feet when someone is on your wheel... those are dirty moves that I've received personally. I haven't seen them in a while. In fact I haven't seen any dirty moves since end of 2009 which is when I started wearing a helmet cam.
For me the scariest or most dangerous were the hard jerks to my hand/wrist and forearm. If the rider had pulled my hand outward I'd have steered and crashed. Instead he hit down pretty hard, so less steering input. It was a very effective way to distract me.
The one that was most degrading were the helmet slaps. Same rider, multiple times over about 20 minutes of a race. He did most of the other stuff, brake check at 45 mph on a descent after he attacked, etc. I ended up crashing out in the sprint, he was so intent on marking me he went down with me. We were both fine but I was laughing at the karma. My teammate, in the break, got the points he needed to upgrade. The guy doing all the nasty stuff was on the ground next to me.

Saw that. Idk how one gets that aero. Give me 150 extra watts and I won't be that fast. The winner of the 3/4 would have been 34th.

also it would appear that brandon has all the aeros but also all the watts. That strava file that doge posted a while back, (and strava weight is always in question), brandon was world class power watts/kilo when he was lapping the field.

All the best guys have the best stuff. And stuff is part of the sport. Brandon is World Class - at 17. Which, was the reason for the thread. He is the worlds #1 junior and like the current and prior World Champions - Sagan and Kwakow...(just like it sounds), Brandon won the Peace Race - except at 17. It is impossible to tell where development will end. He's only as good as the best USA pros now, but he should be watched. Two years ago my son beat him in the VOS TT and Nat RR, but teens change and Brandon did. If you enjoy seeing the words best cyclists, watch.
