Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I know most of you have created your own SS bikes, but this is a bone stock Shinola Detroit Arrow.

Cheap single speed

My cheap single speed built from a lot of cheap parts. The frame is a 1973 Fuji Grand Tourer? Not really sure anymore.

Sscx

Been waiting about 10 years to build up a SSCX bike. Don't know why I've waited so long, but I think this bike will really get my juices flowing and am predicting a deep love affair with the bike's cababilities.

Love this.

How did you get the chain tensioner to push the chain up rather than down?

Nothing new except for the screw that I ran over yesterday that ruined my front tire. Luckily I was blessed with a free Continental Ultra Sport 23c tire from my LBS. This was on my way to the gym.

Finally got this bad boy fully built up and rideable. Just need to get my fit set on it but my fitter has been busy so he was only able to transfer it over to my Foundry.

If you want the build specs and eventually more photos I hope especially ones that are better lined up (I was close but not quite)

Here is my last conversion. "The Black Horse"

My old Merida cyclocross bike is an all round Single Speed now.

The best of this bike is the frame clearance that allows to use different tyres depending of the weather or season, from 25cc Road tyres until 45-50mm Gravel tyres. Even spikes tyres we use in Winter in Scandinavia. And the disc brakes are so powerful that I am just using the front one, works amazing and looks clean.

40-18/16 gear rate because Norway is very hilly XD. Mounted a flat 670 mm handlebar and gravel/spikes tyres now for fall/winter season, but I will mount drop bars and road/cx tyres after winter.

Absolutely love how this bike rides! My October SS build. This is a 1977 Le Tour II frame with as much black as I can scrounge from my bins. It keeps me company as I messenger around town. It actually gets thumbs up from the car holes!

That is nice - I'm overly partial to Surly bikes though. If you ride in all conditions, maybe some fenders would be in order.

Yes... I´ve already had the displeasure of going to a concert my ass entirely wet (and got a puncture on the way back... at least the show was great). I like the vélo orange fenders; I might get them for the Parisian winter.

I love them as well, so beautiful and make the bike a joy to ride.

I think I will change my tires as well. Already 3 punctures in as many weeks... I hate Marathons but it seems like it’s the only viable solution here given the amount of broken glass in the streets... I wanted to put compass Cayuse Pass on it but it seems a bit foolish to spend that much money to ride in the city. I love my Barlow pass on my other bike though; great tires. Maybe I’ll find a compromise on the Panaracer gravel king or something.
