One year only team. Perhaps bikes built by Oliver - Tex, same frame supplier to Ochsner.

1982 Swiss team Royal - Oliver Tex

Yep, 1919 Swiss pursuit champion. Geared to 23x8. 24 spokes on wood rims. Swiss Timing took his 4000 meter split at 5:04. Pursuit was 10,000 meters back then and tactical, not a pure time trial as it is now. He got that time without starting hard from the gun.

Once I asked him how he always had the best price on Campy. "We are Swiss, we know how to smuggle." Also Tullio was an old friend.

Found more info on the Ocshner site / museum. Seems some of the frames, mid 80's are Italian made, not Swiss. I might make a visit. Confused-

John- Absolutely your chrome Ochsner is 'brilliant'. I have pics of it, recalling the meet and ride Fox River ;-)

Got into servicing it today. So easy, no fuss everything being new. The parts and frame only had store dust. Its coming together beautifully. Dismantled, washed it lightly with Dawn dish detergent, WD-40 parts clean, dry and then wax to the frame and fork. The original finish on the Campy parts are just right!

Replaced the rubber with NOS Michelin HI-lite 700x18c ......... forgot I had these hidden away. Perfect condition. Skinnny tires look so right for this era.

I'm officially the first owner, outside of the two store's who had it and you've got to wonder how does this happen? I also want to keep the monetary question at bay. Brand new vintage Campy (regardless of level) is getting silly money and know it could be parted faaaar more than my buy. I couldn't do such a travesty. That I know for sure.

The only thing I don't care for are the rims, spokes and tires (tires, regardless are toast). I have an idea for the wheel build using these original hubs and actually would make this 'lowly' Campy equipped bike 'pop'.

I suppose no harm to ride and enjoy, the very reason it was made, life in motion.
Ode to My Socks
Pablo Neruda, 1904 - 1973

Maru Mori brought me
a pair
of socks
which she knitted herself
with her sheepherder’s hands,
two socks as soft
as rabbits.
I slipped my feet
into them
as though into
two
cases
knitted
with threads of
twilight
and goatskin.
Violent socks,
my feet were
two fish made
of wool,
two long sharks
sea-blue, shot
through
by one golden thread,
two immense blackbirds,
two cannons:
my feet
were honored
in this way
by
these
heavenly
socks.
They were
so handsome
for the first time
my feet seemed to me
unacceptable
like two decrepit
firemen, firemen
unworthy
of that woven
fire,
of those glowing
socks.

Nevertheless
I resisted
the sharp temptation
to save them somewhere
as schoolboys
keep
fireflies,
as learned men
collect
sacred texts,
I resisted
the mad impulse
to put them
into a golden
cage
and each day give them
birdseed
and pieces of pink melon.
Like explorers
in the jungle who hand
over the very rare
green deer
to the spit
and eat it
with remorse,
I stretched out
my feet
and pulled on
the magnificent
socks
and then my shoes.

The moral
of my ode is this:
beauty is twice
beauty
and what is good is doubly
good
when it is a matter of two socks
made of wool
in winter.

Anyways, the bike is completely serviced and shining. Easy peasy and fun. Will post pics when I get a chance.

looks great!

I'm looking forward to the review of the ride!

Any thoughts on whether it's a keeper?

Picked up yesterday, its brother of the Royal family.

Columbus tubing decal is a bit tattered and not sure what type. Seatpost diameter is 27.2 mm. Campagnolo dropouts / fork ends. Portacatena holes. Cinelli bb shell.

Definitely a different frame compared to the above NOS find. Italian tubing and lugs, made in Switzerland by Royal. Same paint and similar graphics.

With exception to a braze on Campy front derailleur, it has a Shimano 600 group including hubs. Super Champion Arc en Ciel hoops.

The Super Record decal on the top tube is under a clear coat and with the Campy SR front changer, I'm guessing it originally was equipped with that group.

All said, a bit interesting seeing this brand in the States, escaped the importer Ochsner with their private label frameset and Campy components.

Terrific! Noticed the Ted Ernst shop decal. Keep that on there. An ambassador to the sport, he's quite active and frequents the Classic Rendevous forum. No doubt both Ted and his father crossed paths with both Ochsner I and II.

I'm a big Victory/Triomphe fan for '80s bikes. My two with Triomphe bbs and cranksets are soooo smooth with their 8-speed chains, Campy rear derailleurs and 7-speed freewheels. Feels like belt-drive. I have to tighten my Triomphe shifters every once in a while, but I don't care. I love them.

I have two of the Ochsners in my stable. One 59 cm and one 57. I have made the 59 available as a frame and fork on the web site and have held off on building it up with a combination of tricolor and 105, as someone may want to do their own design. The 57 will be a daily driver when completely re-assembled with full Campy NR. The blue frame was Alle tubing and should have a seat post size if 26.8 to identify it completely. The frames are every bit as competitive as the Pinarello's, and Gios, and the Gerciotti of the era. They have a great geometry and are really very ride-able for everyday and crit type rides. Othon was a great guy importing some of the best in the world for us. Smiles, MH

wow... if I didn't know better, I'd swear that those white brake hoods were the same as the Weinmanns that came on Raleighs. I can only hope that they aren't as hard as the Weinmanns.

neat bike!

I found a pic of Swiss team Royal - Wrangler 1982. Campagnolo Super Record.

This Royal, although sharing the same blue paint of the Ochsner, definitely is a step up. I'll look further into the tubing but have a hunch its Columbus SL. Seatpost diameter measured 27.2mm.

Team name: Royal - Wrangler - Campagnolo Year 1982 from - until 01-01-1982 - 31-12-1982 Switzerland nationality UCI code UCI category 2 Make Royal

We bought a few things from Oschner back in the 70's. They were a well run professional operation, more so than most of the other wholesalers back then. Must have been the Swiss heritage.

Oschner frames and bikes were extremely well made but very "spendy", sort of Porsche quality.

We occasionally used them for Campy stuff, also Clement silks.
