Trek 412 - maybe 613?

Just bought this Trek at lunch. Old Treks are extremely rare around here - I assume there was no local distributor. I've only seen 3 or 4 for sale in several years. First one my size and it was even a reasonable cost.
This one was originally from Michigan.
It was sold to me as a 412 but with the Reynolds sticker I assume it should be a 613, probably a 81? Unfortunately it looks like there is quite a bit of rust bubbling under the paint around the BB and chain stay.

Look up the SN on the Vintage Trek website-

While some people can identify fork crowns and stuff, I can guess that the old Trek logo on the seat stay caps is 84 and earlier, the bare letters on the seat tube are like 81 and earlier, screws in the head badge are like 80-81 and earlier...

At that time- Reynolds 531 was 600 or 700 series- if there was a 600 series that year.

Everything else either refer to the catalogs or the SN charts.

By the way- cool old Trek- regardless...

That sure looks like a 613. If it has the Suntour Blue Line that's another (likely) affirmation. 614's have Cyclone. A clue that it's pre 82 is the lack of a color band around the seat tube with the "Trek" logo.
Ooooops - Golden Boy already mentioned the seat tube.

It looks like a 6nn series frame to me. The domed stay ends mean it's not a 7nn series frame.

I agree it looks like a 1981 and earlier 6nn . i would go as far as saying it looks like Suntour VGT , so i would say its a 613.

Heres mine , it has incorrect rear derailieur

Nice! I'm always watching for a second one. I've a '82 614. The only difference i've been able to find (aside from colors) on 82-83 613 and 614 is the triple chain wheel on the 614s.
