I'm sure you've heard it a million times, but I'm really happy with my Open Pro/Ultegra wheels. I never worry about them at all, they just work. Maybe you've tried them already.

Benn using 36 spoke Open Pro with Ultegra hubs on my last two bikes. The rear rim cracks around 8 or 10k miles but I've never been stranded by them.

When I bought the Seven used it came with Cole wheels. Broke a spoke once (no big deal) but then the freehub body split down the middle on a steep climb (maybe 20%) and I almost fell over.
I somehow got unclipped but couldn't walk up the hill on my cleats without walking in the dirt.
Able to coast down the canyon to the house and couldn't find a freehub body anywhere. Cole went belly-up, apparently.
Since the Seven has Campagnolo I can't switch the wheel with the other bike so I bought the Ksyrium Elite wheels. They're great while they're working.

Needs to hurry up and be March. First club "race" is March 20th, then a 3 week series starts that next Saturday.

Oh, I agree. I love grad school.

But I've had to adjust my spending and lifestyle accordingly. Although, I must say, dropping weight is a lot easier when you're forced to cook or make everything you eat. We're on our third or fourth 15lb bag of rice so far this school year. I make a pretty tasty peanut curry, truth be told.

Today one of the more competative women in our club came back for the first club ride since breaking her leg. She was not yet her old self but still dropped me on the climbs. She said the doctor asked her if she was riding again and she told him she had done a 60 mile solo ride. "60 miles in one day???" he asked. Obviously he had no idea.

My brother, who was my dad's caretaker before me, came to visit with his family.

I snapped at Junior early in the visit for something he did, definitely at an unwarranted level. I permanently took a toy away from him (not "toy detention", the thing is gone).

Later, we all went for my dad's daily walk, about 1.5 miles. My bro knows me, obviously, as he's seen me in many different life stages, stress levels, etc. When we were walking and talking with my dad (and the rest of the gang, his 3 kids, his wife, Junior, and the Missus, were running around so we had privacy).

He asked how it was going.

I told him that if the Missus and I got divorced, the whole process started when I took on the responsibility of caring for my dad. I've never even thought that such a thing would be possible, but being on edge for the whole month has really worn thin at home.

He looked at me and asked if I'd been riding.

"No, not enough time. Plus I've been really sick."
"You need to ride, even if you're really sick."
"What?"
"You have to ride. Get the blood flowing, something. It helps the mind."
"..."
"When I had Dad I used to be on 'Skate Detention' (he skateboards pretty seriously, as seriously as a Cat 3 races). 'Skate Dentention' meant I had to leave the house and skate for a few hours. If I didn't do that it was really bad."
"..."

So tonight I rode. Feel much better.

Trying to decide about wheels and where to buy Campagnolo hubs. Ribble has a great price listed but the hubs are "out of stock".

It took me a long time to realize that you need to have a reasonable amount of selfishness to be a happy person. If you're not happy, no one wants to be around you anyway, so being depressed and martyring yourself over any task at home/work/whatever doesn't do anyone any good.

Very well said. I haven't learned this yet, but I'm starting to.

Edited to add: did anyone see that U23 Cylcocross Woman got caught with a motor in the bike? I never thought I'd see the day (I probably should have thought, but still).

It's dominating my FB feed. I keep snickering when I see it, and the Missus looks at me like, "What's so funny?".

There's a video of her in some race earlier just riding away from everyone on a hill, just pedaling away like nothing.

I wonder if they'll dope test her to the nth degree, or if they don't do any extra testing because "it's just the bike".

I'm curious where they'll find the "friend" that happens to ride the exact same size bike as her that happened to leave the bike in the pits. Also I wonder how many bikes are doctored, like does she start/finish on a clean bike and get the gap on the doctored bike?

So true. I thought I was doing what I could do for myself, but the reality is that I needed to do a bit more for myself.

Bike 24 usually has decent prices, but it's always $20 shipping that you have to add on. Good time to buy some tires/tubes too (they're usually decent on schwalbe tubes and conti tires, but that can vary)?
