There was a lot of chatter locally about this GF given the payout. Anyone could enter.

I put in a twitter link to video, but I guess that gets blocked on this website.

10k seems like easy pickings for him, being on a pro cycling team...

Historically this was against USAC rules. I would think UCI rules. I'm not going to look it up now, but my hunch is there may be some fallout.

Emmitt Smith Grand Fondo? LOL.

I was a faculty member at UF when Emmitt played there. My intramural basketball team (just a bunch of engineering students and me as a faculty member) was playing his intramural team even with minutes to go. Then Emmitt starting calling the fouls for the officials and any of us even looking at his team was an intentional foul. I am not kidding. His team won a close game and Emmitt signed autographs for the officials after the game.

F that.

Wait.

I thought that Gran Fondos were NOT races?

Why don't they just call it a normal bike race?

gran fondos, as in the real deal - the ones in italy, not the nonsense ones in the US - are races for 10-20 guys. most of which are either aspiring or former pros.

the latter tended to be pros whose careers were cut short by getting caught doping. if memory serves, raimundas rumsas won the maratona dles dolomites a couple of times. i was there for one of them.
