Strava flybys now private by default- Opt in if you wish.

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I haven't seen this posted here, though maybe I missed it?

https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2020/10/...s-feature.html

Your ride no longer shows up on Strava Flybys by default. I understand why - probably some of the info invited stalking or otherwise made people feel uncomfortable. However, I tend to consult Flybys with some frequency to figure out something about a particular rider I saw, or to find out if that person I saw out of the corner of my eye really was a strava friend. It's too bad that it will now be mostly blank.

Anyway, if you want your rides to be visible to others looking at the Flybys, you need to go in and toggle your privacy settings.

Or not.

I turned mine back on as soon as I saw the notification from Strava. I think that most of the people that I would care to check in on will turn it back on, too.

Flyby is great if you see someone (or a group) on your ride and you wondered anything along the lines of, "where route are they taking?" or "I wonder what club that was?" or "was that Chris?!"

I like the fly by feature for the reasons mentioned above. There’s a longer thread about it over in the general cycling forum Here.

I got passed by this guy, checked the fly by later and saw he was finishing a century when he passed me. Fly by is for feeling shame.
