Apparently because he can see paint on the metal insert in the fork.

Frankly, if someone was going to counterfeit a bike I expect they would have used a more famous name than Wilier. I guess they are decent bikes but certainly not worth faking.

That's an interesting link. Another nail in the coffin of the tired "open mould/ real bike sold out the back door" myth.

What year is the bike supposed to be. I have a 2013 Wilier GT and it has cables that are in the frame not on the the outside like this one.

Just my 2 cents worth: have you checked under the cable guide on the bottom of the bottom bracket to see if a serial number is hiding under it?

John
bro thank you great response ive been bombing hills with it no lie I just like speeed but today after about 7miles I started going uphill I began to hear cracking sound and im just smh I dont think I can trust it for what Im trying to do.
UPDATE: the buyer answered and we're supposed to be meeting up for full refund. He acknowledges he's not 100% sure but hes BS he knows too much about bikes not to. He tried telling me the fork is carbon fiber. I told him its not carbon fiber why would anyone paint OVER carbon fiber???
I don't post much because honestly there's no need to unless I need specifics. Thanks bike forum community I appreciate the responses Namaste

Because it's another surface? Not everyone likes raw carbon fibre. You can test if it's metal or carbon fibre by merely knocking on it. You should be able to tell the difference that easily.

Anyway, good for the seller that he is giving you your money back. I still wonder what it is that is creaking and why you think it is the frame itself.

I also have a 2013 Wilier GT! If you look at the OP's photo of the bottom bracket you can see the welds where the rear bottom stays join the BB - it's an aluminum frame. Wilier did make aluminum frames but the OP's frame doesn't appear to be a Wilier. The graphics just don't look right for a Wilier. Wilier plasters their name all over the place in a more integrated manner. I can't tell from the photos if the Wilier logos are painted on or attached with decals. I'm pretty sure all Wilier bikes have their logos painted on, then a clear coat applied on top. Wilier also put their very prominent iconic logo on the headtube. The OP's head tube logo looks like a sticker. It's probably easier to counterfeit lesser known brands since people aren't familiar with them.

OP, I'm glad the seller is willing to take the bike back. It wouldn't be a total loss if you kept the bike and it was rideable, but the creaking sound you're hearing isn't a good sign.

pro tip for your next bike- a lot of carbon fiber frames and forks are painted. Like...a whole lot of them.

Actually, I think Wilier is a pretty famous name in the bike world, and extremely well respected. If you have money to spend, you really can't get much better than a Wilier.

I don't know, bro, like why not ask, like, 'literally' every carbon bike manufacturer on the planet?

It's clearly an aluminum frame bike, with a weird angular top and down tube. I have no idea Wilier if made ever a frame like that. It a really distinctive frame design, it seems highly unlikely that someone would counterfeit it. Most likely it's some other brands frame that's been painted or a genuine Wilier.

Also, most carbon forks are painted. The ones that aren't need to have a little of extra care taken with the outer layer, otherwise it can look pretty ugly with where the seams are.

Wilier has a pretty famous name. The most famous Wilier bike is the one ridden by Marco Pantani on his record setting climb up the Alpe d’Huez in the 1997 Tour de France.

So, did we determine this was a fake? Maybe doesn't matter any more since OP stated he's going to get a full refund.

I am not familiar with the Wilier lineup, but I don't see anything wrong with that bike at all. It makes no sense to fake a lesser-known brand then sell it for a reasonable price. OP not being able to find the serial # is not a surprise seeing as they didn't know carbon fibre is almost always painted.
