Was going to use the thanksgiving break to begin ramping up for next year (assuming we have a race season lol). But life happens. Probably get in about 10hrs this week. Still, able to do 3x20 indoors at/above 350, which is not so bad. Good place to start from.

Im basing my training on the assumption that well have races in March, just like you. We have a great Saturday crit, Sunday RR weekend mid-march every year and I am shooting for that. Gotta shoot for something I guess.

To echo the others, I'm not sure what's going to happen this spring unless the vaccine is phased in for most people and they're checking to see that folks get it before signing up for events (which has its own set of issues). So I'm going under the assumption that collegiate won't happen in the spring.

So my goals...
-hit 250w for ftp by the end of this year as tested by the sufferfest half Monty protocol. Will do the full one before starting the next plan.
-shoot to be able to do 20 min intervals at 4w/kg by March/April.

But most of all, stay healthy in general and with fit related things. And suck it up and pay for a legit fit if that's what it takes.

Yeah, for whatever reason there are fondos on the calendar over here in the UK and no races yet. I've thought about targeting one of those, as they're pretty race-y at the front. I'm on about 75 CTL (TL in Xert) now at 12 to 15 hours. I'll have inject a fair amount of intensity to ramp that CTL, cuz I'm going to hit a ceiling on hours pretty quickly, if I'm not there already.

Been hiking less (it's shoulder season), and focusing on cycling a bit more. That has been putting me on the bike about 5 days a week, doing structured workouts for generally 90 minutes. Making some headway on bringing my numbers back up, and can now get through interval sessions without needing to toss the bike through a window. I'm actually enjoying riding again. Will see what happens as the next phase of the pandemic unfolds, but if there happened to be a race up a mountain sometime in 2021 I might be inclined to contest it.

Been accumulating winter hiking gear - picked up a new ice axe yesterday, a hardshell last week, some crampons the week before. So when I head back out there I'll be less apt to slip off the side of a mountain. There's been snow on the peaks since October, and despite the warm spell there's pretty solid ice up there.

311w 20 min (FTP test) this morning. 5' then 20' (Friel) method like caloso . My trajectory this year hasn't been quite as steep as last year, so I would have been satisfied with about 10w less. It's also only 15 w below my peak last year, so things are looking good. Body weight not too far above race weight, weighed in at 146 lbs beforehand.

3 hrs of z2 (Zwift) indoors on tap for tomorrow morning. Will tune into a little work webinar in the middle from one of our analytical instrumentation providers.

Depends, but that reinforcement can definitely make it a compulsion and an issue if behavior around food starts changing and there's guilt/reward introduced into the equation. Our brains are weird like that.

Shoulder season is the travel period between the peak (or high) season and off (or low) season. For instance, if summer is peak season and winter is off season, then spring and autumn are generally the shoulder seasons

Zwift race last night, first one in months. I did okay, was in the lead group until it split with 4 to go, and came in with 3 others. 4/16 in B's, I just need be able to respond to surges better which pretty much has been the story the past few years.

last week of SSB1 HV, I had 2 helpings of Galena (3x20 @ 90,94,92%) this week, Tuesday was really hot in my basement (over 70 degrees) and was miserable during the latter half. Today was under 60 and much better.

rn I'm thinking that I may take my foot off the gas pedal with my current trajectory of base training, which has been timed routinely this pre-season. There are not likely to be races in February (VoS, Roger Millikan etc) and there are plenty of other things that I can be doing.

So like dropping from a planned ~16 hour average over the block, vs like 12 or 13 or something. That way, I can ramp up to being fast fairly quickly (1 month/block) and not have it be too strenuous overall.

So on that note, I'm dropping my 6 hr ride today down to 5, lol.

Feeling good about myself, crushed 3x30 at 90% today, and barely hit 160bpm during the last couple of mins, a good sign things are looking good. Considering this is at the end of 5 weeks of many many sweet spot workouts, this is a total win. Got 4x20 @ 90% tomorrow and then rest week.

following up with myself, 4x20 was awesome, HR stayed in 150's throughout, basement was in the low 50's and I felt great. CTL is 81, on track for winter peaking lol

I have plateaued at 70. Went for a run at lunch today and then an easy 30 min spin on Zwift before dinner, mostly to catch up with teammates on the Discord.

Aside from going down into the 60's after a 1 week vacation in Feb and then kind of a slow start back into training because the 1 week off kind of wrecked me, my CTL tends to just reside in the 70 range, and it peaks in the low 90's range in the early summer (I kind of had 2 CTL peaks this year, early July at 92 and late August at 87). I'm a little higher now relative to the same point last year just because there's no CX racing. Maybe I'd benefit from giving myself a bit more off time and letting the CTL drop more, but I definitely don't go super deep with TSB that I'm ever feeling burned out physically or mentally.
