Wow, that was steal. It does look like it could be a repainted Ghibli frame. There appears to to be Rossin embossing on the stay caps, it has a front derailleur braze-on, internal frame cable routing and the seat tube appears to be fluted. However, I can't determine if the top and down tubes are fluted from the picture. All the components are pure bonus.

Holy cow. Nice job with the stem... maybe that's why it's so cheap... it doesn't seem to fit anyone when folks come to test ride it.

This is to be a before and after thread. Only picked it up yesterday. It languished on CL for 17 days. Only noticed it because while searching for a new place to live, (since being dispossessed by the hurricane last year), by old habit I pulled up the "bikes" listings. I did not pay the asking price. I wanted to start this thread while the CL posting was still up, so I could preserve those photos. All three main tubes are "rippled" as Rossin calls it, and SLX I assume. It has the embossed investment cast lugs and the cursive R inside the pentagon stamped everywhere. There is a tiny dent in the side of the top tube. There's some surface rust. It really rides weird with the stem set that way, but I had to test ride it to make sure the frame was sound? It is my size and I intend to keep it, of course. This is to be a documentation of my restoration efforts. And I am open to suggestions.

It's okay to gloat a little.... Glad it went to someone who appreciates it Rossin was an innovator and did some great stuff.

Nicely done! I definitely want to see how this one turns out. That might be one of the stranger cockpits I’ve ever seen.

Was this near Wilmington? I’ve noticed you’ve posted ads from my neck of the woods in Virginia before. I’ve been sniffing around for a Rossin Record or Ghibli for a long time. I recently got a later model Rossin with the beefy BB shell but round tubes. Mine could probably use a repaint, so I’ll be interested to see what you do with yours.

From what can be seen of fork in photos it appears it may be Nippon produced.

Does the fork look original to the cycle now that you have it to hand?

Perhaps this old guy's peepers are going...right along with the rest of his "faculties"... :roll eyes:

Well. the dropouts are Campagnolo, and there's the chroming and the curve, and this



crappy picture I snapped with phone of embossing/debossing/engraving(?) on the fork crown. (Pics or it didn't happen, right? No one said good pics?)

I will take better photos of it in received condition. The photos above are the sellers from the CL post.

It was in Wilmington, about 8 miles from my current temporary residence on Trail's End. There are only a handful of even moderately interesting postings in this area a year, so I expanded my search radius on CL as far as it allows, and post here so others might benefit. I try to keep my addiction in check by limiting myself to only buying bikes I can bring back on a bike. This is not a hard and fast rule, but it's an attempt at a discipline? Progress, not perfection?

Congratulations on your new old Rossin! Have you posted pictures? That BB is a tank for sure, but interesting.

I'm not waiting on a repaint to ride this thing. Perusing the colour schemes of Rossin the palette appears open to imagination, as long as it's bright and vibrant. I'd like to do something that uses the "ripples", and think I'll eschew decals, as it has plenty of built in identification. Until I figure it out, or it comes to me, I'll happily ride a beater appearing "American Classic" stealth Ghibli. Not with that stem or saddle of course, or those pedals...

What a brilliant find. I'm so glad it fell into the right hands when it could have ended up.......well....I don't really want to think about that.

At one time I had over 50 bikes, all ridable, all classy road/track bikes. I even had a Rossin (still do) in that bunch. It was and is my best riding bike although I do have a couple just as nice to ride. It is the bike I ride when I want to spoil myself - I love it and am so very pleased I eventually 'discovered' the Rossin brand.

I can't wait to see what you do with this frame (perhaps a year or two). You HAVE to post it's progress. I also can't wait to see what you think of it's ride-ability once you sort it out.
