Riding in the Pinellas Park, FL area?
A free trip to Pinellas Park, FL sort of fell in my lap.
We're going the second week of March..does anyone have suggestions on nice areas / trails / routes to ride?
Road or trail bikes, 25-50 miles/day, sightseeing in towns or nature-oriented.
Any suggestions on bike rentals?
thx..
(open to kayaking(10 miles) and hiking(10 miles) suggestions too)

Pinellas trail is 45 miles running from St Pete up to Tarpon Springs. It has a website with maps. There are towns, cafes, bike shops along the trail. It should be very close to Pinellas Park.

Pinellas trail is about the only dedicated trail that I can think of near where you will be. Farther north there is the Courtney Campbell trail that goes over Tampa Bay btw Pinellas and Hillsborough county. It has some side trails too.
If you ride on the streets remember the drivers are horrible. Also, the St. Pete Police crack down on cyclist misbehavior like running lights. At least the used to.
You could rent kayaks on Weedon Island Preserve. It is on the bay side and goes through the mangroves. Also has some short walking trails too. It is a good time of year to go since the bugs will not be as bad.
As far as walking around...Fort De Soto park is on the far south end of the county. Might be worth a visit. There is an old fort there. Honey Moon Island is on the Gulf side. Also nice. Sawgrass lake park is pretty near Pinellas Park. These are all in a densely populated area so I'm not sure how many miles of trails there are. Probably more parks too.
