Commuting by Bicycle - Antedote for Desk-Jockeyitis?
Anyone else feel like riding their bike to and from work is the best treatment for being glued to a desk for 8-9 hours a day? My office not only has no windows, but is below ground. Taking my bike really just breaks up the day and I truly enjoy being outside. Anyone else feel the same?

It helps, but they say (whoever "they" are) that even if you get your 30-60 minutes of exercise a day, if you spend the rest of the day sitting, you are not active enough to be called "active."

I love commuting by bike - especially going home. If I had a good day at work, the ride home is exceptionally great. If I had a bad day at work, well, the ride home is still great. I can forget all the bad things that happened to me in the office and just enjoy pedalling.

Without a doubt. In addition to the exercise, I believe that for good mental health we need to spend some time outside in the environment be it sunny and pleasant or hot or raining or cold or whatever. Going from an enclosed temperature controlled house to an enclosed temperature controlled office in an enclosed temperature controlled car would drive me nuts in short order.(even if it included a trip to an enclosed temperature controlled gym)

Yes - Cycling is nice as you are not in a climate controlled environment. Commuting by bike may not get you all the exercise you need, but it's a start. Even if I get home and don't go for a run or lift weights, at least I have done something.

Shhh! Keep that under your hat. If word gets out there could be a big decrease in obesity and depression. I'm just not sure our healthcare system could withstand that kind of a shock.

I find it's good stress relief... I was tired yesterday morning so I took the motorcycle to work for the first time in 2-3 weeks. When I got to work I just felt kinda antsy and headachey all day, I figured it was because I didn't get that little morning workout.
