First day commuting!

First day commuting!
I rode to work the first time today! It's a 7.1 mile commute with about 4.5 of those being on a bike trail which no one else seems to be using it.
It was awesome, now I've just got to keep doing it.
I'm trying to get healthy and save money at the same time. Currently with only 73 miles on my bike gas would need to be $234.80 per gallon, so I have a while to go yet!

Congratulations! A bicycle commute is the perfect way to get healthy and save money. I went from filling my car up every two weeks to filling it up every two months. I calculated that it saves me about $750 per year.

@malfist - Congratulations! Keep it up. It is an issue of perserverence. There are a lot of examples of why you should continue. Just make a commitment to yourself.
Today is my last day at this job. Fortunately I start another one on Monday. My ride home today will break 1000 miles of commuting home this year. My first ride was in January and was the only one that month. I averaged 13.7 MPH on a 10.8 mile commute. I weighed about 210 lbs. So far this month I have averaged 16.3 with a high of 18.1 on one trip. I weigh about 188. Clearly I am a lot stronger and my body shape has changed more significantly than the 20+ lbs would suggest.
Just do it!

Wow! That's awesome. I'm a healthy weight, but I've not been to the gym in far too long. I'm hoping cycling will help me drop my body fat percentage from 16.5% to ~9%. I was at 12% two years a go and I want to at the very least get back to it.

go, Go, GO! If the goal is fitness, you don't have to worry if you miss a day or two due to weather, or logistics. Also, you don't have to worry about speed or lightness. Don't get discouraged, don't get down on yourself. All you need to do to rectify a length of non-riding days is ride! You will enjoy riding, you will enjoy feeling more fit! You will love it!

Congrats! The first day is always the hardest. It gets easier (figuring out what to expect, how to portage your stuff, timing, etc). Also, use the standard government per diem for a privately owned vehicle....it makes that "my bike has paid for itself" happen much faster ($.56/mile).

I don't know if it was the endorphins or what, but it made the first half of the day much much better. I am looking forward to the ride home, and then onward to the next time I ride into work!
