First fix/ss, good deal?
I've been looking around Toronto where the bikes seem to be a bit heftier in price than in the USA but sticking in the 500-700 range I've found a few different options.
I want a bike w/ fixie & single-speed cogs since I will wanting to be riding singe-speed but eventually transition to fixed gear.
Brodie Remus 2015 - Drop w/ front brake levers. Pretty stock, cheap parts. $600 w/ tax
State Bicycle 4130 - Typical state bike, $735 w/ tax.
KHS Flite 100 - $860 w/ tax (out of price range)
I was sort of coming down to the State Bike being the best bang for buck at the budget level. Pretty comparable parts-wise, and the colour-scheme's are better suited than these ugly options I have been looking at.
I went on Amazon today and found that they have the State Contender (the premium version of the 4130 basic model) for $678 w/ free shipping & tax. That's $55 off the basic model for a better bike with better parts, carbon fork etc..
The only difference is I will need to find somewhere that does assembly on bikes not purchased there which could run me an extra $60-80 from what i've seen. Will it still be worth the saved $135 to go with the Contender? It's in my size (59cm, i'm 6'1) and it's a cool green colour I wont mind. I'll be riding it around Toronto (flat city) and sometimes doing longer rides possibly. I think it's a good deal, but since I won't be getting any bike store warranty with it like say free tune-ups for a year, or free labour for a year, are the saving really worth grabbing it? This bike would probably retail around $800-900 around here. I think it's a good deal but wanted to check with you guys and see your opinions.

Wabi Cycles Classic fixed gear bike specs
Slightly over $700 but is a damn fine bike. $750 and then of course you'll have to pay shipping and tax. Well worth the price though.

I like my basic state but I definitely would not pay that much for it. The contender is pretty ok for the price, so that's not a bad option, although sooner than later I would change those cranks to S300s or similar. My GF is having problems with hers. You could check Kijiji also.
