Indeed. Apparently all "Road Bikes" are "Race Bikes" according to him. I don't recall electing him Arbiter Of English, however.

Is this thread about anything beyond semantics?
Not to dismiss the importance of what we call things, but I’m curious.

Endurance like bikes could be simple variations on the road bike, but they have been purposely differentiated by features, important or not, to separate them from the road (race) bikes into a subcategory, like touring (road) bikes are a subcategory.
This isn't something I'm dictating, it is how most cyclists speak about bikes.

This isn't a world ending question, just something I was musing about and thought might be worth a fun discussion.
But I forgot about the trolls, who can't discuss anything.

Nope. As I will re explain to you, "road bike" is a term that is both a type of bike (road race bike) and a category of bike. And this is like the example I already gave you that when people say "alloy" in certain contexts they are talking about aluminum alloy, even though alloy is also a category of metals.
Endurance like bikes could be simple variations on the road bike, but they have been purposely differentiated by features, important or not, to separate them from the road (race) bikes into a subcategory, like touring (road) bikes are a subcategory.

Maybe we need a third kind of bike to fill whatever gap in the market you are seeing?

Its actually much easier for more people to get just what they want now than it was 15 years ago.

Long before there was an established "endurance" category, my every day ride was a Klein touring bike. I rode it long rides, fast group rides, road races (incl. Everest Challenge), big mountains, technical descents, fire roads, and gravel.
Long chain stays: check
Slack head tube angle: check
Large trail: check
Accommodate fat tires: check
Very endurance-like.

So first of all, is it only me specifically who doesn't get to represent a bunch of people? Because you seem to be speaking for a bunch of people in that first quote, but maybe I'm misinterpreting?
I'd still very much appreciate a sample phrasing that you'd accept rather than a general vagueness. Please and thank you.

And it's NOT an illusion! It's my current dream bike. But I'd have to win the lottery to justify $8500 for a bike.

Hmmm...That's not what I'm seeing. More variations makes it easier to find the bike that best fits our needs.

I think they are a complete gimmick. I went from Endurance to Aero, then had a fit and I am much more comfortable on the Aero than I ever was on the Endurance bike. Granted, I do ride 28mm tubeless, so very low pressure, which probably does a lot more for ride comfort than geometry anyway.

Are you seriously asking another adult how to acceptably ask a question or make a commenr????
"I think a 72 degree head tubes angle damps steering inputs."
"Despite oversize tires I still get lots of buzz on my road bike, but I do not on my Domane."
Etc,etc
