Giant Cadex 980C
My friend asked me if I would clean-up and sell his bike. The Shimano 105 drivetrain appears to have very few miles on it, the brake wear on the rims also look like a minimum of miles. The graphics are very nice, the bike is just dirty.
He doesn’t know want it is worth so I’m asking the forum, what is this worth?

On a good day, I'd say $350 - $400. It's one of the first carbon bikes and has value to some collectors, but the Cadex 980 is not a rare model.
If I had space, I'd love to have this Cadex and lugged carbon Specialized Allez Epic in my collection. Both are beautiful bikes.

The used bike market has really taken a nosedive this year, particularly with mid-range vintage like your friend's Giant. I think $150 probably sells it on CL. You can try $200 to see if gets any interest.

St Louis FB marketplace:
Ultegra 9 speed Cannondale R900: $200
1984ish Trek 500: $100
1990 Centurion Diamondback Interval: $125 (successor to the Ironman)
I often find the best deals on FB marketplace. C/L seems to have the same overpriced stuff reposted again and again. There has been a tandem on my C/L for almost five years now with no move on price.

You’ve got me curious so I took a look at St Louis CL and noticed 2 things. 1) there is a lot of low to mid range vintage steel on there. 2) $300-$500 is no mans land. Seems to be all above or all below.
I think we’re just at different places on the appeal of a Giant Cadex. I don’t see it standing out much from the mid-range Univega, Soma, Schwinn Prelude or Raleigh Technium all priced under $200 and still sitting. There is a classic lugged carbon Look at $250 that hasn’t moved. It has Dura Ace components but looks roached. It will need a person wanting a vintage carbon bike for it to sell.
Only way to tell is to list it for what you want to get. Maybe someone will give you $250 instead of the sub-$200 vintage steel or the Dura Ace Look. Or maybe you get lucky in the $300-$500 dead zone. I wish you success because I hate seeing the market devaluing our hobby like this!

There has been quite an uptick in bikes on craigslist.Since the weather cooled which seems strange.Your right FB has better deals picked up two this summer. Still eyeing that Univega Grand Rally.

I have bought two in my area. One this year and one in 2014, IIRC. Paid €100 for each. FWIW.
