Addiction LXXVI

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My levers like WhyFi's on one bike and like LoP's on the other.

I used to love the ones that had plenty of non-noodle floaty bits and was so hot that the sweat coming off one's forehead added some additional brine. I don't eat that **** like that anymore.

I like the Suntour Qloc axles. They really had me scratching my head the first time I tried to pull a wheel with 'em. I'd guess they're not recommended for use in threaded forks/frames, however.

Man, being a tow truck driver has got to be a tough gig.

They're doing some leaf clean-up on my street, but they didn't put out any signs until last night, so a lot of people hadn't seen the signs and still had their cars parked. My new neighbor's minivan was the first in line, so I had my wife urgently call them to let them know. The husband and wife both happened to be home, so they rushed out before it got lifted on to the flatbed, but there seemed to be some animated discussion going on. Oh well, the tow tuck backs up to the next in line, starts hauling it up on to the bed... and then another guy is out there jingling his keys, imploring the driver to drop it and let him move it. Does look like it's going to happen. Then another person shows up and starts arguing about the parking ticket that they were issued, not that the tow truck driver had anything to do with that.

I hope he gets paid decently.

Shin Black is spicy for store-bought stuff, but not terribly hot if you like heat. In addition to two flavoring packets, there's also has a packet of dehydrated veggie goodness - three packets of stuff, so you know it's good.

I'm sure he gets plenty of pain. However, if it's like many other impound schemes, the contractor gets paid by the vehicle, leading to plenty of abuse.

Yeah, yeah, the soup base, the veggies, and the special aromatic oils! You're taking me back decades.

Mine doesn't seem to have the option to rotate it freely.

It's gotta have something. Maybe your cyclists arms noodles just aren't up to the task?

What's the make/model, again?

That is a possibility, yes. It is a Cannondale Topsoil.

It came in a box, so I never saw it oriented before I got my noodles on it.

You could always get one without a lever, but then you'd have to have an allen wrench to remove wheel.

Bad voodoo all around.
A few years back my niece was staying with me for a while, and whenever she got the chance she was eating ramen. Used to drive me crazy, and it drove a stake between our relationship because she wouldn’t change that bad habit.

Some are just like that. The lever for the front wheel on my Trek Boone sits right on my brake caliper and it drives me BONKERS.

I freakin love this!

As my many Strava followers know, I have started wearing my forearm HRM on outdoor rides and I had no idea it was so easy to estimate training load/stress from the mean HR data. Free software will look back at your rides workouts with HR AND power, model the relationship and give you a load estimate based on it. The best part, though, is how pretty the relationship is. I love me some big R value. While this obviously doesn't replace a power meter, it does do one of its important functions.

My (much younger) wife would eat them a lot back in the day. She stopped when I pointed out that her sweat smelled like fake beef broth when she got home from the gym. If the chemicals were leeching into her sweat glands, where else were they embedding themselves

Some have a little retention nut for the lever. If yours is that design, there will be a small hex bolt (IIRC) in the middle of the lever. You can loosen the small bolt, once you have the T/A installed, and reposition the lever.

Mine don't have levers. Each of my T/A bikes has a mini tool that includes the correct Allen wrench.

Correct.

Pardon my ignorance, but what's the professed advantage of thru axels anyway?

So hard to keep track of all the BS "advances" in cycling lately.
