Looking for recommendations for puncture-resistant 20x4 fat tires for ebike, available in the US, used mostly on crappy paved roads with very light gravel usage.

If you are looking for some good puncture resistant tires then I will suggest you to go for Schwalbe tires or continental gatorskin tires. I am unable to mention the amazon link but you can easily find them there on Amazon. I ride more than 2000 kilometers with Schwalbe tires and never got a puncture.

I think my Mongoose Massif converted to cargo bike uses 20x4 1/4. Also used on some of the old Schwinn OCCs (large size) that are popular for motorizing.



Nothing with mainstream bike brands would fit.

I've gotten a couple of flats... or perhaps one that wasn't repaired properly.

I haven't researched other tires for that bike. I also have an oddball size on my trailer. 16x3 from the small Schwinn OCC. I can purchase Moped tires for the trailer.

Keep in mind that bicycle tire sizes are a bit odd... so one has to get the rim dimensions to look for tire substitutes. I think the 16" tires have about 12" rims.

I think the Massif/OCC wheels (20x4 1/4) use the same rim diameter as BMX bikes, so 406mm BSD = 16" rim size.

So, probably something similar to a 110/70-16 moped tire would be good.

Perhaps take your bike to a motorcycle shop and have them take a look at it.

The bike in question by the OP is a Mate X. The rims are, indeed, around 16". The tires that come with it are some pretty terrible lowest-possible-dollar Chinese tires. Super flimsy rubber with no puncture protection whatsoever.

I've acquired tuffy liners to put in, but I'm looking to see if there's some better answer in this size or not, but I'm really finding very few possibilities. The best answer I've seen is the Vee Speedster, but it's not available right now, and second is the Kenda Kraze, which is what I may end up getting.

As mentioned, the Massif and Schwinn OCC use a 20x4 1/4 tire.

The rims are mighty wide.

But the tires are a semi-slick design. Perhaps nicer than the knobbies on your bike.

I can try to take some measurements of my tires or rims if you need.

Yeah, I've already picked up the mr tuffy 4XL liners for both bikes, just haven't put them in yet -- was waiting for an excuse to pull the tires off the rim, because I was expecting to change out the tires someday, and just never got around to it.

That Sunlite XL is an interesting option, though... May have to try that out... Thanks for the find!
