Im pooped. Can't sleep. No energy at work. Just not that happy go lucky carefree guy I use to know and love. I read that low testosterone levels can cause those and more symptoms and a booster from a vitiman shop can help reverse all that. Anyone here had any good results from testosterone boosters. Any recommendations? Don't be shy about. I'm sure I'm not alone here.

Yes, low Testosterone can cause those symptoms -- Clomiphene Citrate (Clomid) in Men - A Testosterone Alternative.

I tested a couple of years ago just under the lower limit of normal due likely to my 20 years dealing with Diabetes. My doc prescribed Clomiphene Citrate which was created to assist women with infertility. But, it also can help raise Testosterone levels. Clomiphene, or Clomid, works by blocking estrogen at the pituitary and hypothalamus so that a man doesn't develop the stop signal for producing testosterone(which naturally does convert to estrogen). Blocking estrogen allows the man's body to make it's own Testosterone rather than artificially introducing it via a gel or other mechanism. I went from just under the lower end of normal--in my case it was under 300ng/dl. After being on Clomid, my levels jumped to over 600 ng/dl(the last measurement just one month ago was 679 ng/dl). As of now, Clomid use in men is considered "off label," but there is a company applying for approval for their version, an isomer of the molecule, for use in men. Clomid isn't cheap, but I get it through Rite Aids Wellness program at a very substantial discount. I use ½ a 50mg(25 mg dose) tablet once per day. I prefer this method of raising Testosterone over artificially raising it with gels or such.

I tried "Androgel" for a while - no big change. My doctor recommended something called "Bee Pollen Buzz," and my numbers have climbed ever since.

There is a new testosterone product coming to market in the New Year. Endo Pharmaceuticals will be marketing it in the US and it is a nasal gel. No black label warnings which keeps your loved ones testosterone free. I don't require it as I am normal for age but can't use testosterone products as I am already prone to clotting disorders. Many swear by it, as does my MD.

I don't like doctors and I won't preach about seeing one, but there are other factors that could be causing your complaint, and most (if not all) would show up in a blood panel. I had one done in April and it showed a serious vitamin-D deficiency. Fixing that has provided me with a huge energy boost.

My testosterone was low, but nothing to worry about. Fixing the D problem and getting on a bike has most likely elevated the testosterone level. At least I feel strong and horny again, if that's any indication.

Can't help if your number is low, BUT, if you do not have a test result as mentioned there can be other contributing factors. Get blood work done first.

Been on Androgel for the past 3 years. Right after I found out I had CHF and an EF of 20% plus a testosterone level of 0... yes that's right the big zero. My GP and Cardio docs decided to give it a try. At that time a walk to the mailbox was an outing. That was about 23,000 miles ago... so I guess it's working for me I consider myself as one of the lucky ones as I don't seem to have any of the side effects and the benefits seem to out weight the risks at this point in my life.

Searched "Bee Pollen Buzz" and got a zillion hits for all types of bee pollen products. Did you take bee pollen, royal jelly, or bee propolis. I did not see any one product called "Bee Pollen Buzz"

7 years on Androgel here, 25mg/day which is a fairly low dose. Yearly exams/ blood work. Its a minor PIA to apply but worth it. Very expensive. My old insurance policy (you know, the one I could keep) paid 100% no questions asked. My current policy made me jump through many hoops to get approved and only covers 80% so it still costs me 100.00/mo. Still its worth it, greater strength, much less aches & shiffness.

In my younger powerlifting days I would buy unprocessed bee pollen from a local natural foods store. It was cheap and not bad tasting. I would swallow a big spoonfull twice a day and before a training session.

The low-dose Tadalafil (Cialis) daily tablets also have good feedback.

I'm one of those weirdo "think outside the box".....(the same boxes that are almost always built by the med/pharma community).... kind of cat when it comes to my health and modifications made too my aging body via trendy new prescription drugs....and for instance?....if these are in fact the symptoms?.....

  • Sexual dysfunction (unable to maintain erections)
  • Reduced sex drive (reduced sexual activity)
  • Decreased energy.
  • Loss of body hair, reduced shaving.
  • Depressed mood.
  • Increase in body fat.
  • Decrease in bone strength.
  • Reduced muscle mass.

I don't see the problem....matter fact?...my friends get a chuckle when I explain to them that I don't get the "Low-T Drug Commercials" where they say...

"and if you are suffering from low-T?"

Because I'm NOT "suffering" from low-T....matter fact?.... I'm rather enjoying mine!

Now look at the list above...and what's the first 2 things they hit you with?....sex stuff....how degrading right?....and what a blow too the inquiring males ego and pride that is...but my question is...

"Exactly when did society determine that the benchmark of good health as it pertains too senior citizens of AARP and above ages should be running around with non-stop erections and/or the libido of a porn star?"

I mean....couldn't such behaviors and social activities lead too such things as Mitral Valve Issues, Stints and Quadruple By=Passes?

Then they hit you with yes...the one saddening truth..."Depressed Mood"....or is it?...as some say Satan will float 9 truths just to slip in one lie...well I wasn't depressed until I read that list of symptoms and guess what?....hair loss, decrease in bone mass/strength along with reduced muscle mass and decreased energy levels?....are all part of what many generations before us just accepted as...

"Simply getting old."

But now a days?...leave it too big pharma and modern medicine to convince society at large that if gramps isn't waking up with morning wood and making his rounds dancing through the nursing home hallways with all the vigor of John Travolta after two fat lines of coke whilst humming the Beegee's title track "Staying Alive" that....

something's wrong?...seriously?

Now....ask yourselves...are you really "suffering" from low-T?...or are many of these symptoms natures way of slowing you down and protecting your old azz heart from that other head that tried to do our best thinking for us for so many decades past?

Ones things for sure...if they can convince you that you have a REAL health related problem?...and spend million$ in promotions and advertising campaigns to get that done?...you can bet your butt they already..."Have A Pill For That"

Well - blush - at 75 I "suffer" from morning "wood" and rather enjoy it - all natural - but I wouldn't mind keeping it arond for a bit.

Now, I realize that you are just a young-un who - I gather - thinks he (and we) are just one step from the grave, but I don't have that attitude or belief. I am raring to go, and want to keep raring to go.

I guess I am just different.

That could be...and yes...it's come to my attention through life that many folks are in fact different..physically...mentally...the works...with some very different...(self included).....in which case I apologize if I offended anyone of any age with my tongue and cheek banter divulging my innermost thoughts on the topic.

Sorry. Somehow I missed the tongue-in-cheek Thanks for your innermost thoughts, though. Perhaps we could compare our innermost thoughts, or you could start a thread, "The innermost thoughts of 50+ bicyclists"? Carry on my friend!

It is such controversial and sensitive issue today because of those incessant adds about low "T"
But for some there is a very real need medically to take testosterone and possibly other hormones du to hypopituitarism. Life without testosterone is difficult and ultimately dangerous--couple of people in this thread mentioned it because it is important for muscle functions and skeletal health among other important reasons.

It is advertised so much because of a simple delivery system has been developed in the last few years and the pharmaceutical industry wants to capitalize on those gels that don't work for everyone and particularly for the ones who are in real need!

A somewhat painful intramuscular injection every week or every two weeks is a life saver and has nothing or little to do with sexual function or at most very secondary!
