Nashbar Mansfield 2 Chamois Bib Tights, these always seem to have good reviews, and a good price.

Good buy, their tights are usually available for $29.95. I posted about them a few weeks back. When they hit this price level, I picked up 2 pairs of the tights. I already have 2 pair of the bib tights, too, this mid-weight fabric is nice and warm, and the bibs have a soft feel, to the inside of the material. Nashbar's kit is a solid, well made, value priced group, high on my list for kit.

A previous pair (tights not bibs) were fine, but wearing out.
Just got another pair same size, but they're so tight in the leg that it's hard to bend the knee.

Looks like a Nashbar and cold weather gear thread.
Highly recommend one of my favorite soft shell insulated cycling jackets.
https://www.nashbar.com/bikes/Product...23_-1___204696
The jacket is warm, good for between 25 - 50F (maybe even colder), depending on what you wear underneath. In 32-45F, I'll usually build enough heat that the jacket is damp inside, but still warm. I really like softshell jackets for cold weather and when you can purchase this jacket for under $40, that's a really GREAT buy!

I was thinking: Baselayer, cotton long sleeve shirt, and the jacket. Would that work?

Depending on the temp, I'll use one or a combination of these; light to heavy weight base layers or thermal long sleeve cycling shirts. For cold weather at freezing and below, either a fleece shirt or jacket works well along with a base layer.

I prefer synthetics, no cotton. The cotton retains to much moisture and loses the ability to insulate when wet.

Having the right gear makes cycling in cold weather actually enjoyable. Still, I prefer to ride with temps above 32F, even better with the sun, so I'm with you there. In Oregon where I live, that's not to difficult since we have more days above freezing then below.
