I heard of a study where 30 minutes of moderate exercise twice a day was as effective in alleviating symptoms of depression as whatever SSRIs were given to the other treatment group in the study. So if you can't afford meds, working up a good sweat's another way to ward off the blues.

biking is a huge stress relief for me ... and normally i bike my 16 mile round trip commute at least 3-4 times a week. however, this last month has me working about 90+hrs/week and, as a result, my energy levels are really at rock bottom. i need about 15-20min more in the am to bike in as opposed to driving, and lately those 15-20min of sleep seem precious.

i miss my biking. it really helps level me out going to and coming from my stressful job.

Whem my job gets stressful, it's much more often stressful in the huge adrenaline rush sort of way than problems with the boss or annoyances like that. The major purpose of adrenaline is
to prepare the body for aerobic exercise (fight or flight.) So, the only logical way to blow off the adrenaline and not go crazy after a rough day is to do some serious aerobic exercise on the way home, maybe even run after that if I'm not wound down.

There are definitely days where cycling is the best part of the day. Not every day, but it happens enough that I see where peple who say that are coming from.

She's obviously not a bicycle lover. Some folks are bike people, and some folks just aren't. There seems to be a higher percentage of bike people here than in the rest of my life.

A bad day biking is better than a great day at work.

Before I (re)started bike commuting, I felt fine most of the time. Now that I bike commute some days, I feel great on the bike days and crappy on the non-bike days.

Yeah, some days, the bike ride is the best part of my day. Well, my work day, anyway. Kudos to any of you who can self-actualize on the job. Most of us will never know what that feels like, even if we wish we could.

I take a couple days off during the week to just let the ol' legs regenerate. But I find that I'll end up going out on a errand or hopping on the recumbent exercise bike.

My wife kept telling me take the car today, take a break...I rode the bike.

I've even given up being overly annoyed by idiot drivers, for the most part anyway, as they were ruining my bike karma

You got it.... at least for me. One of the main reasons I commute so often is that it keeps me sane. It does relieve a lot of my stress.

For those that stress out due to arsehole cagers, is it possible to alter your route?

My ride home is over 2 miles longer than the ride in, through the middle of nowhere. Worth every foot of it.

I fall asleep so much easier on the evenings when I commute the 15 miles home. That in itself makes me look forward to riding home!

Riding reduces stress for me. Unfortunately, there are too many days that I have to drive DH or DD due to current emergencies. I am looking forward to riding my snow bike. I will be glad when the family can resume driving themselves.

Past few days I've have felt different and couldn't put a finger on it so on the way home I decided to go weigh myself, I looked at the readout, stared in disbelief, and tried again, I'd lost 16 pounds since July and 30 pounds for the year, yeah I was smiling.
For me biking is the best part of the day because that's my alone time, literally shifting gears between work and home whether I go fast or slow depends on my mood and is the way I deal with stress.

oh come on, when he is crabby they just want him out of the house hoping he will come back in a better mood.

edit: the light just came on; same thing happens to you? it does to me.
