Where do you keep your U-lock during commute?
I usually attached mine to my bike while riding, but today the attachment broke while I was riding. I slid half of it to stay in the back of my pants for the rest of the commute which worked ok, but still looking for something more efficient. Maybe the ulock company will replace the part for free? I don't know, but in the meantime Anyone carry their ulock differently? got any ideas?

the bike shop suggested I use straps and strap it between the top tube and the seat tube. I decided to keep it on my rack.

Short rides Ill just throw it on the handlebars and ride. I couldnt find a single spot on my frame where i could lock it securely and not have it rub tires or interfere with riding (I saw more than a few people doing this around, but not on road bikes usually). I keep it in my backpack if Im wearing one though.

I keep a small one for just riding, and I leave one at work on the rack. If I am just generally commuting, I don't bring one. Saves weight.

Bicycle Repair Man !!!
It usually goes in the backpack, panier, or chrome bag as I don't like hanging it on the frame and when I am working it gets holstered in the rear rack so I can lock/unlock very quickly and not have to pack a 3 pound lock in my bag all day.
I wish all my rear racks were so accommodating.

On the Cruiser, it rides in the front basket.
On the bent, it rides in a duffel bag.

I have a kryptonite u-lock that lives on the rack on campus. Funny thing is that when I tell someone that I leave my lock on the rack over the weekend and even during mid-semester break I often get asked "aren't you worried about it getting stolen?"

Just leave a u-lock and cable (~$50-60) on the rack at work. Then, you never have to carry them just for the commute. It's a simple system that works!

I leave at the rack at work. When I run errands it goes on top my trunk bag. I found it made too much noise when using the factory mount.

I tried the attachment that came with my Kryptonite New York once, and once only on my mountain bike. It took up the entire triangle, leaving no room for bottle cages. That's no good. I tried various methods, and not having a rack on the bike at the time I settled for hanging it around the seat post - the U section hangs down in front of the seatpost, the straight section goes around the back, above the seatstays. Now I only use my mountain bike for mountain biking, and it never leaves my sight. The lock goes in a pannier on my hybrid, and I'm thinking about putting some bungees on the rack to hold it when I have no panniers. I really like Sixty-Fiver's idea, I'll try that too.

If the carrying attachment that broke was from an On-Guard, this is common. They all break pretty quickly.
I leave mine locked to the rack at work.

I used to lock it through my rack, but since I started using a rack bag, that doesn't work. So now I lock it around the steerer tube (so the flat part is inside the frame, and the round part out the front, below the handlebars). Because of a small frame bag I have, it sits fairly securely, and doesn't rattle toooo much. I've started carrying a cable lock as well though, and haven't found an ideal solution.
Also too lazy to figure out how to attach the lock mounts.
I do find the weight distribution is much better with the two locks up the front, counterbalancing the rack bag.

Bike ≠ Car ≠ Ped.
I should take some pics sometime --
I have some Twofish Lockblocks that carry it pretty well on the stem & handlebars. Don't know where to find them for sale now, though.
I also use the Kryptonite mount, almost like how mijome07 has pictured above, but a bit differently -- mine is on the seatpost and turned towards the rear.
It's easier to use the Twofish blocks on multiple bikes, but the mount is more handy when removing/attaching the lock.

I suspect the bracket failure on the On Guard products is do to the lock bouncing. Mine is mounted off the seat post and I have a Velcro strap to the mount of my rack to keep it from bouncing.

or some other comes with a bike frame holder, that simply locks into it.

When I used to park my bike outside, I left the u-lock on the rod iron fence that I locked my bike up to. The u-lock stayed there overnight and over the weekends. I only removed it if I was gonna go on vacations as I might need it.
Nowadays, I get to keep my bike in the office.

On my Giant Iguana, it is on it's bracket (between the chainstay and seatstay).
On my Kona Jake, it is on my luggage rack (with an elastic strap to reduce the noise).

after having two of those mounting brackets break on me in the middle of a ride, I've decided I can't trust them any further than I can throw them and I just keep my lock in my backpack. doesn't make that much of a difference in weight and its more reliable.
if I am locking in my bike locker I just leave the lock at home and bring my cable lock, which I have wrapped around the frame at all times, for emergencies.
