Got up on the BRP this morning for a short ride to open my legs and check out the bike I'll be using this weekend. It was pretty cool coming back down the hill at 35mph in summer kit when the temp was in the low 50s. So perfect!

Don't mince words
Rode 3.5 mi. to the gym, did a TRX class, rode .6 mi. to pick up car (currently sharing w/daughter who commutes by car, bus and BART), drove home, then rode 26 mi. out in the country. 500' of climbing, quick pace, avg. 17.8 mph. It was fun using the same bike for a commute as well as a fast ride.

Yes I rode today, but after watching donheff's slide show of Italy, my ride isn't much. Go see his pictures of Italy, then we can talk about a group meet up there.

Not today but yesterday my stoker surprised me by talking me into a tandem ride after work. About ten miles, a little misty part of the way but I had put the fenders on so that was OK.

First chance to ride since Monday due to the afternoon showers. I did my bike club ride this morning but we did the short version (12 miles) because of some new riders. It's getting ready to rain again so I'll see how the weather is when the wife gets home from work. Maybe we can get another 10 miles in. I'm on vacation this next week so I ought to get some good rides in.

13 miles and a few feet [which I'm still counting! ] this morning. The weather has been unusually cool for early September with the front that moved through and pushed TS Lee out of the area. Around here it's still usually just plain ole' summertime in September. Fall weather doesn't kick in until late October typically. It's inching back up day by day, but it was a pleasant morning.... other than having to cut my ride a tad short to find a restroom!

62.8 miles and 4950' of climbing on the Villainous Viper Metric this morning out of downtown Asheville, NC. Absolutely spectacular day to be riding a bike. 48º to start and 75º at the finish. Too bad my legs didn't come along with me today. I struggled on every climb and we started with a bang right up to the BRP from town. There were many steep pitches today including one mile at 11.4% ave. I saw 16% on that one. Ouch. 4:24 on the bike time/ 4:46 total for a 14.3 mph moving ave.

Made my first 50 + mile ride this am. Not too tired either. Waited to take my beta blocker until I got back. That helped a lot.
Ride Giant XTC1 SE mountain bike. Came with 11-34 XTR cassette. Got 11-21 cassette ordered. Anxious to see how much difference it makes.

The weather was beautiful today so I rode to Stone Mtn. No surprise there. I met another cyclist there to ride home with. He is 59 and was riding a Fuji Team Issue bike that he uses for time trials. That should have been a clue to what was to come. After 2 miles he spotted another (faster than me) cyclist that he said he knew and wanted to catch up with. I told him to have a safe ride and turned onto my usual route and headed home.

I rode a metric century with a few club members. It was the first metric for one 50+ rider. She just did her first half century a few weeks ago after never having ridden more than 25 miles.

Rode a very hilly 41 mile club ride today that went down into Brown County. Made it up the very challenging Bear Wallow hill and partway up Greasy Creek hill which I had previously ridden up maybe 12-15 years ago when it was on the Hilly Hundred route. Walking the last steepest part made me realize that if I had stayed on the bike I would have been moving faster. The downhill immediately after Greasy Creek was long and smooth - hit 41mph.
The 41 mile ride was medium and the long ride was 61. Not unexpectedly, I was passed uphill going 7mph at mile 23 by a group of long route riders who were at mile 38.
There they go!

23 miles on the local MUP. Light pedestrian traffic so was able to keep a pretty steady cadence. Saw a friend I hadn't seen in years, riding a 70's era Sears and Roebuck cruiser in very good conditon. Of course, didn't think to get a pic.

42 miles and 3700 ft of climbing with my local group. I rewarded myself with ice cream this afternoon.
I started lifting weights again 2 weeks ago, focusing quite a bit on leg strength. I noticed a difference riding today, my legs definitely felt stronger and my back and shoulders did not ache after the ride. The bad part is that since I lifted yesterday, my legs felt good the first half of the ride but were very tired the second half.

I did the Civil War Century again this year, after missing it last year because I was out of town:
https://connect.garmin.com/activity/113323247
We had pretty good luck with the weather. It was misty and humid, but the afternoon thunderstorms held off. The roads had lots of gravel and twigs etc. on them from all the recent rains, but it was better than I expected.
I wasn't able to ride all week because of the rain, so this is the first time I've ever tried riding that long of a ride with "fresh" legs. Wasn't good. I actually felt OK for most of it but I was dying at the end. And the drive home, and all evening, and all night were excruciating with leg cramps.
I think I need a "recovery" ride today for sure.
