Is $200 for a Miyata 110 a good price

Hi guys, long time lurker, first time poster. I've searched around for posts concerning Miyata 110s. It seems everyone lucks out and finds them for dirt cheap, but I was wondering if paying around 200 bucks for one would be a fair price or not?

Of course found it on craigslist - here's the ad: https://ottawa.en.craigslist.ca/bik/1229208399.html

any advice would be appreciated, Thanks!

I'm confused, are we not using the valuation forum any more?

Depends on the condition and your local market, but it seems on the high end for that bike.

I agree, too high. At least it's the better equipped later model.

All right, thanks for the quick replies. I'll be sure to use the valuation forum next time - man this forum is huge. The thing would probably be too small anyway (I'm 6'2"). Thanks again! Oh and the used bike market in Ottawa is pretty crappy as far as I can tell . . .

Too high. Miyata makes some great bikes (I have three Miyatas myself right now), but the 110 is pretty low end.

yep that's high, even for ottawa, where prices have jumped recently due to a couple of over active and optimistic flippers. you have to keep an eye open, but better deals do surface.

Thanks Allan, would anyone offer an estimate as to what a good price for this particular bike would be? Also remember we're are talking about CDN dollars (which is close to U.S. - but not yet par).

To Allan again - I saw a 1973 brooks saddle on the ottawa craigslist going for 180 - it seems this "Mary" is really trying to flip bikes and parts. It's too bad the used market in Ottawa sucks so bad with so many bike paths around. I guess I could start another thread but do you happen to know of any decent used bike shops here in Ottawa? I tried the bike dump but really everything there seemed overpriced and not in great condition . . . It's hard finding a decent ride on a tight budget. I guess I'll wind buying an el cheapo raleigh from sportek or something.

I paid $75 for my nine twelve, but I bargained with my roommate...

I think the price is too high there as they state it will need new tires (what about the innertubes) and a tuneup. Those things are not free.

My nine twelve, which is a "better" model than your bike (though an '85) could get $200 MAXIMUM.

^ I would bet that you could get a good deal more than that on your nine twelve.

$200 isnt street corner crack head high but it is getting up there. Mid $100's

If it had a tiny, tiny mens frame with one of those stubby head tubes that have lugs touching each other it's be $225 in Tampa. If I could only find small bikes for the Tampa slims!!!!!

I sent an email to enquire as to the frame size, the guy doesn't even know and suggests I go over and measure it. Apparently he's overseas as well so negotiaton wouldn't be that easy. Not sure if I want to deal with this hassle . . .

From the pic it looks to be a 54-56cm which I think would be too small for you. As has been said, it needs tires and a tune up, $200 is a little high even for a keeper.

I'm about to throw my NineTwelve with new tires/tubes up on the local CL here for about that price, full Shimano 600 group with what I believe are the original pedals and unique toe clips, so yeah that 110 is priced high.

Someone recently posted a CL ad here for two (2) Miyata road bikes for $75, which I assumed was for both bikes. No pics and no reply to my email so I assume they're gone, no idea what model(s) they were.

Keep looking, your local Mary the Flipper is finding them somewhere.

There's a guy in the Tampa who flips alot of bikes of medium quality and I have no idea where he gets them from. I cant imagine he gets them at garage sales because it doesnt seem like he'd find that many of them. I'm sure he has people approach him with bikes they're selling and he may have a thrift store hook-up but honestly, I think he running an illegal operation.

His prices are OK and he never advertises them more than once, its almost like he's running a money laundering operation.
