Skinwall Gravel tires

I just bought a black Trek Domane SL6. I want to put a set of skinwall gravel tires on it. My riding on this bike is 50/50 street and light gravel. The max tire clearance listed on the Trek site is 38mm (700c) but some folks say 40mm will fit. For this bike, I prioritize speed over grip in the dirt. I have several MTBs if I need more...Any recommendations on tires? If I can't get skinwalls, I am going to buy the Conti Terra Speed (I know they are undersize...Don't care...).

+1 to that. I have blackwall tubeless G-ones (700x38c) on my Niner and I love that tire! I've got over 3k miles on them and just about ready for a new rear pretty soon. I'll be going with Skinwall G-ones. On mixed road and light gravel, I don't think there's a better tire out there.

I rode Teravail Cannonballs in 650b x 47 for a few months. Loved them, and i rode maybe 50/50 dirt/gravel and pavement. They offer 700c skinwall in 38 and 42... https://teravail.com/tires/cannonball#TR7268

Based on a few reviews, I put WTB Riddler in 37mm on my Niner. I have about 700 miles on them in mixed road/gravel (probably close to 50/50). The rear is already showing heavy wear. I like the tires but since my riding is half road on most rides, they are wearing quickly. May go with G-Ones next time.

If you want stupid fast and smooth, take a look at the Rene Herse Barlow Pass. 38mm. Comes in tan sidewall. Ain’t cheap, though. I love mine on pavement and gravel.

I've seen complaints about the Herse tires not being durable and that they slash easily? How they been for you?

Tread life is about average. Although the sidewalls on the extralights are very thin, there is plenty of thickness under the tread itself.

I have been riding various sizes of compass tires for about six years, about 1/3 of those miles on dirt/gravel roads. All extralight version. I have never damaged a tire.

If I were riding super rocky, chunky gravel (like railroad track ballast), these might not be the best tire due to the thin sidewalls. But they have been fine on any dirt/gravel road open to normal vehicular traffic, even some rougher ones, such as forest service roads.

The more common complaint about Compass/RH tires has been tubeless related woes, but the latest version I got are working out great in that regard.
