underwear
we talk jackets, shorts, water proof trousers, boots etc, but i rarely see underwear mentioned.
I mostly have cotton trunks(too much information!?) but im wondering if there is a better alternative?
Merino definitely fits the bill, but its also very expensive, 1 pair of trunks is the cost of 4 or more regular trunks.
Synthetics are fine, but the smell factor is a real issue
Does anyone have any suggestions that are genuinely better than the regular cotton underwear?

But then on bents and trikes we dont have to wear high priced shorts to protect us from our rides. I wear $15 rugby shorts and my regular whitey tightey underlovelies (blush) and have no problems at all.

I dont wear dedicated cycling under shorts. I wear endura humvee shorts, but dont like the insert and besides, its totally synthetic and so smell can become an issue.

Smell is not an issue if inner liners are washed after every ride. I wash my all synthetic gear after every ride and I never have smelly shorts

I always wear a base layer, Under Armour Heat Gear long compression shorts under heavier compression non-cycling compression shorts.

I wear them when I am riding around with my kids because we do 8-15mi paved trail or single track rides many times a month. If I am riding longer than 15mi or if I am riding hard, then I use bibs because they are 10x nicer than anything else I have tried for that type of riding.

Cotton kills. OP should change diet/hygiene/underpants (not necessarily in that order) if they have excessive stank.

Also, I have never had any issue with polyamide/spandex underwear and smell. They usually smell vaguely of laundry detergent, because I wash them in the gentle cycle and then hang them up to dry. Even after wearing them, they never have a bad smell; at least, I've never gotten any complaints (if you know what I mean)

I used to wear Starter branded poly shorts, but the local wally world doesn't have them anymore. Now I wear Duluth Coolmax long leg briefs. No padded shorts for me, I always wear undershorts that I can ride in. The performance wool socks from Duluth are good too.
