Shout out to an old rack

this thing was great. standard length but significantly wider. don't remember where I found it or where it originated. used to use it for commuting. eventually landed on a 26er that I sold. didn't strip that bike so the new owner got it. shudda kept it. wud be fun to find another, but I don't even know what to search for. anyone ever see anything like this?

I haven't seen one of those "mousetrap" style bike racks in ages.

Found ya some:

yeah those are a dime a dozen. don't really care about the spring thing, it's the width that's useful. it wasn't monster wide, like for a laptop, but it was approx 2" wider than the normal rack

Yeah, I didn't go through the whole list. Not sure if what you're looking for is in there or not.

Yeah, that is an interesting design that's atypical of the racks you normally find these days. It's assembled from bent pieces, as opposed to most modern racks that are welded (usually 6000 series aluminum).

I found an old thread on wide racks, but none of the links given look anything like yours.

https://www.bikeforums.net/commuting...acks-wide.html

I'd love to know who the manufacturer was.

Repost in C&V, maybe? The flipper guys are taking racks off bikes all the time. This doesn't look expensive, more like something from a department store

thanks, haha yeah I remember that one. wonder why I didn't bring up my old one. was probably too complicated & wouldn't be helpful at the time, as-in "I had an old wide one but don't anymore & I don't know what it was ..."
