Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

RS510 Chainrings on R7000 Crankset

On one of my bikes, I will be using a 105 R7000 crankset with 160mm cranks. I would like to put 46/36 chainrings on them. To keep costs down, I will likely use an RS510 outer chainring instead of Ultegra R8000. I have a few questions:

Would it be possible to pair a RS510 46 tooth chainring with an Ultegra R8000 36 tooth chainring? Or, would the big RS510 chainring have to match with a little RS510 chainring?

On my road bike, I already have the Ultegra R8000 46/36 chainrings on my 105 R7000 crankset. With this system, I know that I need to use the Ultegra bolt and cap set. However, would I be able to use the 105 R7000 chainring bolts with RS510?

I am using mix and match 105 7000 crank arms, Ultegra 8000 46t big ring, and RS510 36t small ring. Make sure you have 4 bolt rings. You have to match up the asymmetrical rings to the arms, they only fit one way. You may have to play with them a bit, maybe a little sanding at the edges where they mount to the arms. I did not have to sand, but I did have to move/jiggle them a bit, initially, to get them positioned properly. Then they bolted down just fine, and work flawlessly. I used the 7000 34t ring with the rs510 46t ring and arms on a different bike. It works just fine, also. I did put the 34t on backwards and had to pull it off and turn it so it would shift properly. Mounted backwards, the gap between the rings was too wide, the chain would drop in between the rings.
