Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I have had a fit in jeans (and seen them done this way on others), but having gone through the process I would definitely wear cycling shorts. It just makes the process easier and it makes sense when you think about it. Of all the public places to be in cycling shorts, a bike shop is probably the least embarrassing.

Wear your normal riding gear, and bring your helmet, because you will need to test ride the configuration.

I just scheduled an advanced pro fitting at BicycleRanch (LBS) and was told to wear all of my normal riding gear. Hope this helps.

During my fittting, the PT had me spin at my normal cadence for 10-15min. That can be long enough to start to perspire, especially indoors. Wear your cycling clothes, you'll be much more comfortable.

Best attire is debatable but tutu and ballet slippers is prefered.

True! But, to be properly fitted, you must be wearing properly fitted professional cycling shorts. The attached video illustrates the proper test for proper fit of professional cycling shorts.
