Yep, yep.
The '85 Ironman came with the beautifully challenged orgin8 fork and the Shimano type A shifter bosses...and No wheels.
Here's a thread that Doc made about those shifter bosses.
https://www.bikeforums.net/showthrea...to-later-style
For now gonna use the original shifters. Eventually get some brifters and modify the cables stops instead of Dremeling the shifter bosses.
Here it is eith tri color group, I have 2 almost complete sets, Actually one is C-Cats. I have everything to complete build except wheels. Eventually this will be all electronic etap.

Here's a shot of what has or will go on the '85. Won't use those shifters and the chain is what came with this group. The 11 speed carton is just to keep chain clean. The pink cup has the original headset. The only original parts I'm using is the HS, stem, turbo saddle and shifters. Missing is the MV pink fork I'll have to use...all I got for a 54cm.

1988?
This one followed me home tonight. My size with original bars included. This may get MicroShift R7s over the winter. Minimal wear on the rims.
You guys are a bad influence. Honestly.

So the Type A brazeons match 600 friction shifters? And the 85 has tire clearance like the Classic 86 or 87 Master? I think that makes for my ready made Eroica CA Ironman.

Death fork? Naaaah!!
Yes. Yes, we are.
I love the Microshift brifters, Lose the funky stem and radar array bars and you'll be happy.

Yes, maybe even some more. I ran Vittoria Rando 28’s on my 85 with the original Araya rims so prolly close to an actual 28 and they ran fine.
Would make a fine Eroica steed!

'87 Cleaned Up Enough to Test Ride
Okay, I replaced the chain, cleaned the rear and front derailleurs, and swapped in decent pedals. I trued the front and rear rims, repacked the front and rear hub bearings, and cleaned and lubricated the freewheel. Now, with the original bars and stem back in place, and cleaned Shimano brake lever hoods, I've taped the bar with inexpensive black faux carbon stuff that I had.
Now for a test ride this evening. If I decide to keep this, then there will be things to change on it. I'm not a fan of this shape of saddle. The stem reach is ~1cm too long, and I'd like to lower it a bit. Then, there's the question of shifters, cable stops, and freewheel. Maybe I'll reach some conclusions tonight. 42 x 24T doesn't scare me as a climbing gear, not with this sporty of a frame geometry.
EDIT: I know that the chain is 2 links too long. I'm waiting to monkey with that until I decide its future.

[QUOTE=xiaoman1;21731650]Yup. This is what I had on hand. I also had the choices of gold, yellow, or pink. If I choose to keep and upgrade it, this bike will receive a white saddle and white bar tape.

Phil, we could get together and swap bikes for a ride so you could see what one is like with upgrades.
Mine is set up with downtube shifted DA 9 speed.
It’s a rocket.

white saddle and tape will really compliment the look
As you can see, I like colorful H.B. tape!
Excuse the non-drive side photo as well as a Bianchi in this thread!
Miami Vice, Purple Haze and Grey Ghost

Thanks, Doc. I may take you up on that, at least we could ride together and discuss ideas going forward. I did a 20-mile lightly hilly ride last evening and have a few observations about this bike. The ride spurs you to push harder. Part of it is the geometry and frame material, and the remainder is the tight, high gearing. At cadence, it moves out smartly. The 6-speed SIS 105 stuff works remarkably well, I thought, although the front upshift seemed to bog down a bit unless I put very positive pressure on the lever. (Note: I need to look at that, could be cable binding or something interfering with reaching the high limit position.) This bike was targeted toward stud riders. The downside is braking, obviously. I didn't swap out the pads, which appear to be original. Cartridge KoolStops would help a lot, as would better calipers. Overall, though, I like it, I must say.
